Saturday night Clyde Camp in a Ford car avoided a dog dash and the vehicle overturned near Charles Buchwalter’s residence. Camp suffered a broken collar bone as the windshield top and fenders on one side were damaged. The dog narrowly escaped injury.
In Coshocton two miners died in separate incidents that mirrored each other. George Duntee, 52, was crushed by a two ton rock while crouched in his work area at Tyndale mine No 2 of Columbus Coal and Mining Co. He died shortly after. About the same time in Blue Row mine, Henry Stagmire, 33, was trapped under a heavy rock with a broken back. Surgeons believed he could not survive.
Orryille resident Roy Moock charges West Lebanon’s Thurman Oberlin with alienating his wife Goldie Moock, alleging since 1910 she left him and has lived in West Lebanon. Moock seeks 5000 dollars in damages. John O. Garret of Canton represents him. This is Moock’s second petition for divorce filed earlier.
An Ohio extension bulletin by Professor M A Bachtell explains lime cannot be used as a fertilizer yet it corrects soil acidity, boosting clover and timothy growth. Many farms report meadow failures until lime is applied during rotation, often when seeding beds for corn or wheat. The bulletin is available from A B Graham at Ohio State University.
A historical advertisement urges every home to keep Dr King’s New Discovery for coughs and colds. S A Stid of Mason Michigan testifies his family relies on it, claiming two 50c bottles cured pneumonia. Thousands benefit, price 50c and 1.00, sold by all druggists. Philadelphia or St. Louis based Bucklen Co.
The Gazette items from Oct 11 1888 report plentiful chestnuts this season. Construction will begin on McIntosh’s new block. John Long near Orrville released 1000 German carp into Sugar creek. Snodgrass and Houghton secure the contract for Wenger’s patent sheep dipping machines. W Wertz remodels his building east of Feasel’s store, adding a new front for a convenient business room. Abraham Locke and family from Lancaster PA visit relatives in Ohio.
The program showcased home talent with Prof. Perry giving a timely address. Mrs. Hatfield read Reminiscences with touching effect, Mrs. Cooney praised, and the quartet and solos earned favorable comments. The church was beautifully decorated with national colors, ferns, flowers, and dogwood. Attendance reached 295, with 91 men and 61 women in Bible classes, and total offering of 20.86 dollars.
Will G. Richmond of Inglewood California urges inquiries about Foley's Honey and Tar Compound. He says it greatly benefited his bronchial trouble and cough after other remedies failed, calling it more like a food than a medicine and warning not to accept substitutes. Ady A. J White.
The Sugarcreek township Teachers Institute will meet in Boone's School District No 9 on Oct 17 with an afternoon session from 2:00 to 4:00 p m directed by Miss Sylvia Tschantz. An evening session from 7:00 to 9:00 p m features literary exercises by pupils and discussions on word systems teaching reading school sanitation and prizes. E L Ober pres.

It pledges one hundred dollars for any case of deafness caused by catarrh that Hall's Catarrh Cure cannot cure and urges sending for free circulars from F J Cheney & Co Toledo Ohio, sold by druggists.
Mr. Cyrus Hogsett of this place suffered a severe right ankle crush injury Saturday morning while unloading railroad ties on the W. L. E. section. A tie fell and struck his ankle. he was taken home and Dr. Haney provided care.
Burglars entered the Creston Hardware Co. in Creston on Friday night through a cellar window and an inside stairway. They escaped with about a dozen new revolvers, two old revolvers left for repair, around 100 pocket knives, and three or four razors.

Members of M. E Sunday School class No 9 met at the Douglass home and Miss Laura Chatelain was honored with a surprise bridal shower. Rev Burris arrived to present the class gift a silver gravy ladle. Refreshments were served and two new members joined the class.
