Memorial Day will be observed in Dalton on Monday May 30 with a parade at 145 PM and cemetery services at 2 15 PM. Dalton Post 5534 VFW leads arrangements with officers and speakers including John H Gonter Vern F Hoobler Rev Mark L Brown and LL DeArment. A half hour concert by the 11th Regiment Band follows. PTA chicken dinner is at the high school 4 to 8 PM. Concessions for VFW Carnival July 7 and 8 are being booked by Kenneth Yeaman.

George O Eschliman 50 of Pleasant View died Monday evening at Greencross hospital Akron from a cerebral hemorrhage. In ill health since 1941 he was active in Pleasant View Mennonite church. Survived by three sisters Eunice Mrs Gladys Mellinger and Blanche of North Lawrence. Services Thursday 2 pm at family home and 230 pm at Pleasant View Mennonite church Rev A J Wengerd officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Auble Hooley funeral home Orville in charge.

Fire damages Dalton Presbyterian church basement kitchen
Fire blamed on defective wiring damaged the basement kitchen of the Dalton church Saturday evening. Arthur Martin raised the alarm at about 6 pm and firefighters wore masks to battle the blaze. The wall where the fire started was ruined and a table, coffee urn, and silverware were heavily damaged. Loss was estimated at 2000 dollars and covered by insurance. Sunday services were held at the United Presbyterian church due to smoke.
