Former Dalton Resident Frederick Schultz Dies at 77

Frederick Schultz born in Leitershausen Germany died in Massillon Ohio after a pneumonia battle. He lived in Dalton for twenty years where he led the painting department at his brother Martin Schultz's carriage works, later moved to Springfield to work at Champion Harvester, and then to Massillon with his daughter Mrs Lena Sieberg. Funeral services were held in Massillon and Dalton with Masonic pallbearers and clergy from the First Reformed and Presbyterian churches.

Dalton High School Commencement Plans and Program

The Dalton High School Commencement will be held Friday evening May 24 at 7:30 p m in School Hall. Dr J Knox Montgomery president of Muskingum College will deliver the class address. Admission 25 cents. The program includes multiple orations by students, musical numbers and the presentation of diplomas. Reserve seats at the Gazette office.

Pokeberry Social Crowned By Horst Home Gathering

A group of youths met at Shares Horst’s pleasant home last Sunday evening for singing spirituals and social time. They praised Mr Horst as a royal entertainer and left with hearty thanks. Also, many Pokeberry youths attended the Presbyterian church baccalaureate sermon. John Johnson moved several fat horses to Orrville last week. J C Haring of Pocock Coal Co dismisses claims of insufficient riders, asserting Dalton’s pre coal boom vitality and miners owning farms would keep the town thriving even if mines declined.

Delegations including Dalton Post G A R Arlington Lodge and local lodges form at 1 30 PM and march to the cemetery for flagging graves and ceremonial rites. Rev Wm F Feeman of Wooster speaks. later ceremonies move to the school hall if weather prevents cemetery events.

The Presbyterian church overflowed for the baccalaureate service of the High School Senior class. Rev W N Hubbell preached on striving lawfully with four key steps: preparation honesty unselfish living and working with God. Parents were urged not to push graduation aside for quick cash.
