The 1930 Dalton High School commencement Friday May 16 crowned the largest class yet with 25 graduates. The ceremony featured white attire, green and white decor, a class motto, musical numbers, speeches by Dr. Harold Mohn, and the presentation of diplomas. A vacant seat honored ill graduate Duane Wolf as juniors disrupted decor.

Seniors and faculty enjoy lawn party at Supt Snell home
High School notes describe a Wednesday lawn party hosted by Supt. Snell for seniors and faculty. They played outdoor games and ate a luncheon of sandwiches beans potato salad pickles olives punch ice cream and cake before moving to Dugne Wolf’s home where he remains ill but shows gradual improvement and could not attend commencement week activities.

Freshman Sophomore Junior Examinations and Farm Steak Roast
Examinations for freshmen sophomores and juniors were held midweek as regular classes ended Wednesday noon. Grade cards were issued Friday. High school pupils and faculty enjoyed a steak roast at Prin Spotty Miller’s farm near Applecreek last Thursday, with games, a bonfire, roasting steak, marshmallows, and lemonade. An April shower did not dampen spirits. Two minor knife accidents occurred while cutting sticks. Cloyce Backman had an arm cut and Willard Nussbaum sustained a deep gash in a Singer.

Obituary for Jacob Garman of Barbertown and Canton
Jacob Garman 80 died Sunday at the home of his daughter Mrs. Clara Knaebel in Barbertown. Survived by daughters Mrs. Knaebel Mrs. Mary Alice Baer and Mrs. Eva Shaffer, a son Abraham J. Verdict for Buchanan in pig collision suit
A jury in common pleas court found for Wm. Buchanan in the case Wingart of Canton versus Buchanan of this place. Wingart sought $3,000 damages claiming a Buchanan pig caused a Lincoln highway auto collision. The verdict was signed by all 12 jurors.

Frank Wecht, 73, died May 7 in Pasadena California. He was the oldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Michael Wecht and brother of Charles Wecht of this place. He is survived by his wife one son one daughter five sisters and two brothers. The body rests in a mausoleum at Pasadena.
