A head on collision between trains No. 35 and No. 6 on the W. and L. E. main line near Zoar station killed Mail Clerk Baker of train No. 6 and seriously injured engineer Louis Clemens, the fireman, and baggage master Greenwood of train 35. Passengers were shaken but uninjured. rescue and ambulance service carried the injured to Canton.
From the Gazettes of a quarter century ago dated May 24 1888. Sweet William the jeweler has folded his tent and left town. E E Adair Esq of Wooster will deliver the Memorial day address. Adam Weiss ready to serve customers with a milk shake. Alvin Good of sterling and John Good of Congress visited over Sunday. Race and IOSier are preparing lumber for a new 30 by 60 shop after harvest. Harrold Wertz Pleasant Hill Nurseries set out thousands of fruit and ornamental trees this spring.
Monday evening a social gathering at Mr and Mrs Will E Scott home marked Miss Clara Kean’s farewell party hosted by Class No Y of the M BE Sunday School. The group presented a silver thimble with her initials. Refreshments were served.
The council met with quorum and Mayor Cooney presiding. The ordinance committee proposed extending pool room hours to 10 30 pm, but the measure was tabled. A. E. Lauder refused to accept councilman position. Nominees M. L. Hileman and Daniel Thomas were set, Hileman elected and sworn in. Wiring bids opened McDowell 15 10 and Locke Bros 11, contract awarded to Locke Bros. Council adjourned.
James A. Gilmore of Green township and Miss Cora C. Arnold of Smithville, wed. 8 Steiner and Sarah Nuee baum, both of Sugarcreek township, listed for marriage licenses.

A. B. Cunningham of Muskingum College won first prize of 100 dollars and the interstate oratorical title at Wooster University chapel Friday night. His speech was titled the Challenge of Crime.
The Ladies Aid Society will hold a Stanwood festival on Saturday night June 7, 1913. Ice cream cake straw berries and other delicacies will be served. Music by the 11th Regiment band of Dalton.
A short testimonial claims Bucklen's Arnica Salve heals burns bruises boils sores inflamed skin and related conditions. It notes L. H. Haflin of Iradall Texas recovered from a painful ankle sore in four days and urges keeping the remedy in every home at 25 cents.
Class No 11 of the M. E. Sunday School planned a Monday evening trip to the Gregorys country home east of town for Mrs Gregorys birthday. Rev F A Lehn of Nankin led the group with guests including Mr and Mrs John Gregory J W Johnson and D F Schultz. Refreshments were served and the outing ended after a late return.
Miss Edith McGill of Akron and Cristobal Panama and Mr Harry Mohrman of Cristobal Panama wed April 17 1913 in the Union church Cristobal The ceremony was followed by a nine course dinner at the Washington Hotel The couple will reside in Cristobal after June first with Mohrman employed in the Canal Zone government The bride wore a Parisian gown and carried a bouquet of roses The groom and attendants wore white suits The wedding party included Mrs Saida Ball of Cleveland and Mrs Hall of Crtobal
Obituary of Joseph McFarren aged 76 years detailing birthplace in Stark county near McFarren church, marriage to Elizabeth Cook, children and descendants, career as hotelkeeper in Dalton, and funeral held Tuesday at the Presbyterian church with Rev. Findlay officiating. Attending relatives listed from Massillon, Mt. Eaton, Stark county, Akron and Orrville.
Mr E A Freet longtime Dalton tailor and prominent citizen died Monday at 7 15 after a brief illness He was born Aug 26 1832 in Mahoning County Ohio and moved to Dalton in 1852 He served as postmaster for 24 years and held village and school treasurer posts He was an elder of the Presbyterian church a charter member of Arlington Lodge 775 IOOF and connected to Cedar Lodge 430 F and AM He is survived by his wife Lucinda Houghton two children Mrs Cora E McDowell and Geo O Frost and two grandchildren Judson Harry and Georgia Freet.
The program lists speakers and performances for the Dalton High School commencement including Gladys Lata Stuck Zelma Mae Thomas Elda Edna Springer Pearl Hazel Stuck Eva Elizabeth Rudy Minnie Martin Warren Ralph Rudy and Franklin Roy Myers. Funeral is planned Wednesday at 3 30 PM from the Presbyterian church with the Rev J W Findlay and Rev L M Snyder officiating. Snyder served many years as postmaster during the deceased’s term in office.
Wm. Homan of this place was taken to Massillon City Hospital Monday morning for rupture repair. The operation was considered successful and the patient rested well after surgery through the night.
