The Monday night class for young men and women held a party at the high school with about 50 attendees. Games and contests centered on Cootie. refreshments included ice cream, cake, and coffee. Charles Bach received gifts, Fay Pickens and D. H. Scott were thanked for their efforts, and plans were made for a banquet on March 24. The M.F.C. will meet at the high school next Monday at 7:30 for a trip to Orrville.
The 11th Regiment Band held its annual supper in the band room after rehearsal, with 26 in attendance. Entertainment committee members W. P. Slusser C. R Goudy and Ira Wertz organized the event, and Mrs. C. R Goudy Mrs. Ira Wertz and Mrs. W. P. Slusser assisted in serving and prep. A plentiful meal featured smoked sausage sauerkraut cheese bread doughnuts and coffee.
The March meeting of Mr. Sutton's U. P. church class will elect officers. It will be hosted by Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Sand on Friday evening March 17 with a covered dish lunch served.
A 9 pound B born Tuesday to Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Douglas of Orrville a 9 lb. son. A 74 pound daughter Rea Rosa lind born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ressler at the Alice Wingert home on Friday. Riceland Farm Equipment in Orrville announces a big opening Friday March 17. Junior Williams violin and Vivian Douglas flute earned Excellent in the North East Ohio district solo contest in Wooster Sunday. Community Club met Thursday at United Presbyterian dining rooms with Ladies Aid serving a fine dinner. Rev. A S Rosenberger Salem Mennonite pastor attended as guest of Harry Gregory and spoke briefly. Band Mothers Club benefit entertainment date not yet set.
The State Tax Commission will order 300 million new design sales tax stamps redeemable after May 1 at 3 percent. Ohio Highway Department reports 9,250 auto mishaps last year, down from 9,538 in 1937, with fatalities down 15 percent.. Ohio enforcement reports 55 raids, 37 arrests, 32 convictions, $5,520 in fines and 640 days. Seven stills seized. Beightler outlines $15 million highway campaign to surface 2000 miles of secondary roads. Warden James Woodward and aides suspended at Ohio Penitentiary after findings of liquor sales, marijuana, and illegal gambling. reorganization leads to removal of the Warden and about twenty guards.

Heavy weekend rain caused floods across the county with many cellars in Dalton filling. The 2030 Club of Wooster sponsors The Wayne County Hobby Exposition at Wooster High School cafeteria on March 30 31 and April 1. Blosser Bros bought seventy hogs at the Kidron sale Thursday and will ship hogs to Pittsburg, buying more each Thursday. J Hawk ins first installment of A Girl in Camp a two part novelette appears in The American Weekly magazine with The Sunday Chicago Herald and Examiner.
Mrs Nina Weaver 67 widow of Dr Thomas A Weaver of Blackleyville Ohio died at her home Friday morning after a paralytic stroke suffered Tuesday She is survived by two sons Vance at home and Wilbert on the farm south east of here She was a daughter of the late Thomas and Vera Cully spent her girlhood here After marriage she and Dr Weaver moved to Blachleyville Dr Weaver died in 1937 Funeral was Sunday afternoon in Blachleyville church with Rev C Mattern officiating burial in Dalton Cemetery.
Mrs. Sadie Bickel Wilson formerly of this vicinity died in Warren Ohio on Sunday March 12 at about 80 years. She leaves son Earl Wilson of Warren daughter Olive Costello of Ravenna and brother George Bickel of County Line east of Dalton. Funeral was held in Warren with local attendees.
Mrs Salome House aged 41 died Sunday at 2 a m at her East Main Street home after a six month illness. Survivors include husband Herman House, her parents Mr and Mrs Jacob Swartz of Massillon, four brothers William Edward Medardus and Vitus of Notre Dame, three sisters Mrs Albert Worth Canton and Mrs Don Pfeister and Mrs Daniel Cocklin Massillon. Funeral was held Tuesday at 9:30 a m at St Barbara's church Massillon with burial in the church cemetery. Remains were at Murray Stockham funeral home in Dalton until the service.
Harry Ward Owens aged 56 of Massillon and formerly of this place died Sunday night at his residence. Survived by six daughters Mrs Russell Happoldt Mrs Russell Hopper and the Misses Aleda Donna Jean Helen and Marlys Owens a son Clarence Owens two brothers William Owens Anthony Owens two sisters Mrs Henry Ressler and Mrs George Eberle and three grandchildren. His wife Martha Owens died ten months ago. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran church. Interment was in West Brookfield cemetery.
Mr and Mrs E Gonter and daughter Myrna along with Miss Irene Johnson of Massillon plan a two week motor trip through Florida. Miss Leona Weber and Miss Vera Scherer of Strasburg visit Miss Louise Smith of Doylestown. John Morlake and families of Akron, Cleveland residents, and Mr and Mrs Thurman Zook of Orrville join R E Tracy home visitors.
A Cleveland girl Edna Fae Quedenfeld 17 will be featured as soloist in the Parade of Musical Prodigies on Dr Frank Simon's Armco Band broadcast Sunday March 19 at 3 PM EST She earned superior first division flute in 1938 national contests and will perform Chaminade Concertino The program includes States march Scottie Curzon Bravada Head Lines The Bells of St Marys and Ciribiribin
The Dalton high school lists honor students by class for the fourth six weeks. Seniors with all As include Cletus Gerber Richard Moser Evelyn Tschantz Betty Teeple. Sophomores noted with all As Iona Gerber Stanley Hostetter Mae Matson. B or higher seniors include Atlin Amstutz Charles Foltz Mildred Graber June Horst Inez Kohler Helen Moser Roy Nolt Dorothy Parsons Howard Poetter Robert Rudy Loyal Santmyer Dorothy Simon Paul Snyder Junior Stevie Helen Wentsch. Juniors and freshmen further named with multiple students across grades.
Mrs Callie Graber visits Mt Eaton while the Dalton School band rehearses for a March 31 concert in the high school auditorium. Veryl Horst is seriously ill in Massillon City Hospital after pneumonia. Sol Miller buys the Hoover farm near Rittman and will move next week. Mrs W C Gibson returns to New Philadelphia after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs Elmer Ober.
D Ray McAfee of Dalton Ohio is appointed Executor of the estate of Willard M Derthick late of Wayne County Ohio. Creditors must file claims with the fiduciary within four months or be forever barred. Dated March 9 1939. A S Saunders Probate Judge of said County.
Tad's Inspiration harmonica operetta set for Saturday night at Center School with a short program by the school orchestra directed by Prof Garver. Clarinet solo by Mr Garver plus cake walks and admission 10 and 15 cents. G Sprueger, Teacher.
