The Volunteer Fire Department met at the station with 17 present after repairs to the siren and building. They bought radio equipment for 1900 dollars and a 65 dollar battery charger to aid fire trucks and Civil Defense. A tank wagon check is set for June 22 in Canton. A lumber stand for the Street Fair blanket star on July 20 will be built by 14 volunteers led by Victor Houghton Paul Schultz Tony Shupbaugh and 12 others. Merle Douglas reported on the Apple Creek county meeting held June 20.
325 Ohio vocational agriculture teachers attended the Annual Conference in Wooster and Cleveland June 19 17. D H Scott represented Dalton high school as Paul P Mechling and C E Beougher presided. Speakers from Ohio Agricultural Experiment Station included W E Krauss and G A Hammon. Tours of Nela Park and a GE visit complemented discussions on lighting grain drying farm wiring motors and hay drying. Mark Nichols of Salty Lake City Utah spoke on vocational agriculture. Over 400 attended the Recognition Bangout at Smithville Inn where 25 year service keys were presented and teachers received 5 10 15 and 20 year certificates.
Dalton garden club plans a regular meeting at the VFW Post Home with hostesses Anna Weikert Dorothy Denbrook and Helen Berg. Roll call asks members to name and give a fact about a signed bird, and the horticutlure topic is Buttons and Bows. Members are asked to bring a large coat button.
The Bonus Comitus met at Mrs. Robert Berg’s home with 10 members present. Prizes went to Mrs. Carl Brown and Mrs. Valney Yungen. The next meeting will be at Mrs. Harold Graber’s home in Orrville.

Franklin C Bailey 54 of Burton City died Saturday at Mercy hospital Canton. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Frey Gresser in Orrville with Rev. Thomas Lorenz officiating. Burial at Crown Hill. Survived by wife Ethel daughter Nancy son Paul and four brothers Harry William Charles of Canton and George of Orrville and two sisters Mrs Henry Forrer and Mrs Edward Markley of Canton.
Funeral services for Mary E Gardner 84 died at home after a long illness. Born December 5 1870 Sugar Creek township she was a daughter of John and Margaret Gochenour. She is survived by her husband Oscar Gardner at Dunlap hospital a grandson two great grandchildren a brother Thomas Gochnauer and a sister Ada Straits The service was at Christ E and R Church in Orrville.
Mrs. C. S. Sullivan Sr. of 218 A gain Street is a patient at Ephraim McDowell Hospital in Danville Kentucky and will be confined there for about three weeks. She was struck by a heart attack while on vacation en route to Arkansas.
The First National Bank will be closed all day Monday July 4 on account of the national holiday. W T Tyrrell cashier.
The Ohio Country route from Cincinnati to Toledo features forts and battles linked to Anthony Wayne St Clair Harmar and fallen timbers. Historic sites along Route 127 and Route 24 honor Wayne forts such as Piqua Loramie St. Marys Greenville and others marking Indian wars and the War of 1812.
The Dalton Homemakers club gathered June 16 at the VFW post home. Members answered roll call with jokes on father. Devo tions were by Martha Moody, reading Luke 10 2537. Musical numbers by James and Donna Moody and a duet by Ada Goudy and Nanna Hershey. Ruth Shisler led games and contests.
