The fourth annual Sugarcreek township picnic at Bowers grove near Dalton drew many attendees. A morning band concert preceded lunch and an afternoon program with recitations speeches and music. An 11 inning baseball game, some minor injuries, and many volunteers contributed to a day of community celebration.
A Sugarcreek township teachers group drafts resolutions honoring H F Longenecker as he leaves the district. They praise his work raising rural schools, honest dealings with teachers, encouragement to pupils, sober counsel, parental engagement, and leadership that values subordinates. June 28 1888 notices from Massillon and nearby towns list visitors homecomings and arrivals. Names include Edith McGill Burt Baughman Rev W N Fletcher Mrs D S McElhinney and township clerk Davison. Groundhog hunting records show 500 animals killed in two months under the local limit.
A large crowd witnessed a Sunday baptism at the creek below Ressler bridge led by Rev. M A Burris. Applicants were sprinkled poured and immersed as the Methodist church allows personal conscience in baptism while the service included hymns and prayers.
Geo Imboden born near Dalton on November 9 1846 died June 18 1913 at age 66 years 9 months 9 days He lived most of his life on a farm along the state road near the county line where he was born He married Malinda Parker on March 6 1874 She survives with one brother John at the home and one sister Mrs Katherine Fickee of Plainfield The funeral was held at the house by Rev J W Findlay the Presbyterian choir sang and interment followed at West Brookfield

A storm Thursday evening set the United Brothern Church in Sterling ablaze after a lightning strike. Fire destroyed the structure while some furniture was saved, including the piano and chairs, and the scene was described by residents as officials investigated the incident.

Alfalfa known as the king of grasses is expanding in Ohio with counties reporting to the State Board of Agriculture. Experts advise planting in late July or early August with good seed beds and inoculation. Prof Holden and Joe Wing urge using high quality seed and note western bed seed is available. An alfalfa acre contest will be encouraged and counties are urged to establish alfalfa stands and seek information.

Christian Sorensen of Wooster University presents a stereopticon lecture titled Norway the Land of the Midnight Sun at the Presbyterian church Thursday July 3 at 7 30 p m under the C E Society. Sorensen recently won the Junior Oratorical contest. Admission 10 cents for children lie for adults.
Mr. Ad Schultz of Schultz and Spellman blacksmiths was kicked by a horse after finishing a shoeing. The horse struck his left arm above the elbow with a corkscrew wound. He was taken to Dr Roebuck for treatment. no bones were broken.
Advertising copy touts Bucklen’s Arnica Salve for ulcers boils eczema and other skin ailments. It cites Mrs Bruce Jones of Birmingham Alabama cured of a nine month ulcer in two weeks and notes the product costs 25 cents with endorsement by A J White.
The Wayne County Holstein Breeders Association organized at West Moscow school house on June 18. Officers: Win Bixler president, Aaron Hursh vice president, Elmore Kimberlain secretary and treasurer. Speakers C Miller and D D Bixler of Medina County spoke on dairy breeding. A committee was appointed to draft rules and the group set to meet again June 26.

The Lautenschlager families held a reunion last Saturday at Dan iel Sauter’s home west of town with a large attendance and a bountiful dinner. Charles Lautenschlager of Wooster served as president and led a program of recitations and songs with Rev. W. H. Hubbell delivering a brief address. Next year’s meeting place was discussed and the McCulloughs of the Children’s Home were welcomed as hosts. Officers elected include Pres. Chas. Lautenschlager, Vice Pres. Fred Lautenschlager, Sec. Mrs. Ed Knoox, Exec. Committee Edward Deets John Zaugg Isaac Lautenschlager.

Henry Bingledorf ten year old son of Charles Bingledorf of Smithville died at five o clock Monday afternoon from burns suffered last April when coal oil exploded while starting a fire. Doctors had previously said he would recover in time.
