Kidron Auction Anniversary Draws Large Crowd and Record Sales
The Kidron Auction drew about 8 000 to 10 000 people for a Roman holiday anniversary sale last Thursday, selling roughly 700 head of livestock and 2 500 head of poultry for about 12 000. The top price paid was a Holstein bull at 163 bid by a Wooster meat packing company. the animal will be turned into hamburger and hot dogs. Col Cy Springer, head of the enterprise, praised the day’s returns as a new growth milestone. The event featured an 800-seat amphitheater and a hog barn for 1 000 head. Springer, in business 16 years, noted last year’s sales exceeded 600 000. Three generations of one family worked that day. Entertainment came from bands from Berne, Dal ton, Baltic, Warren and Mineral City. Sprunger plans to expand weekly sales next year with another holiday.

Barn Burns on Hartman Place Fire Destroys Structure
Fire caused by firecrackers gutted an old barn on the Hartman place near the county line on Saturday night. The Dalton fire department arrived quickly and saved the Perlee Hartman garage and repair shop nearby. Water from the department and a cistern at Rev. S J Buchwalter’s home aided efforts.

Sheep Killed by Stray Dogs South of Dalton
Eighteen sheep were crippled or killed Saturday night by stray dogs off a road south of Dalton. The flock owned by Mrs. Sue Sauter and Clyde Gerber was corralled under a bridge where dogs chased them and escaped through a flood gate.
