Dalton business men fund a weekly summer concert series to keep the town lively. A voluntary collection may be taken to cover costs, urging citizens to contribute. The 7 45 p m program includes March E Pluribus Unum and The Star Spangled Banner conducted by Prof. Oscar Puegner.
Charles Burtnette alias Charles Burton, 35, with no home, admits killing James O'Brien, a Brewster laborer, last Wednesday night in a tramp camp near Brewster. He says O'Brien threatened to expose his robberies in Wooster. Burtnette has been jailed in Brewster and was moved to Canton county jail on Saturday. Russell Frombery, 25, of Warren Pa, jailed with Burtnette, is exonerated. O'Brien's crushed body was found near Brewster the morning of June 14.
The Baughman township picnic returns for the sixteenth year at Ott's Grove near Fox Lake on Thursday, June 21. Refreshments will be served by Noah Swartz throughout the day, with music from the 11th Regiment Band. The program includes concerts by township scholars led by Miss Jenny Cully and by the 11th Regt. band, plus addresses by G. U. Baumgardner and Hon. James A. Rice.
George Lawrence of Kittrell Mississippi reports relief after taking Foley Kidney Pills for persistent backache and kidney sluggishness. It also mentions Mr Daniel Buchwalter attending his regiment's reunion at Doylestown last week and reports lightning strikes on barns belonging to John Hoak and Andrew Budd in West Lebanon during Saturday's storm. Peter Eckard's barn was hit on Thursday with Havey Eckard inside but unharmed.
A graceful June 16 1917 wedding united Margaret Madge McElhinney and Guy L Garret in Akron at Mrs Frances McElhinneys home. Rev O A Keach presided with Mabel Poole brides maid and Harold Sheary best man. After dinner the couple left for Marion Ohio on a brief wedding trip and will reside in Akron where the groom works for B F Goodrich Co.
Margaret Edna Wenger of Burton City and Elmer J Wander of North Bloomfield were married at the Methodist parsonage in Wooster with Rev. E E Moore officiating. The bride is the daughter of D Wenger and the groom is a 1916 Wooster College graduate and principal of North Bloomfield school. They will reside there after a brief wedding trip.
Miss Bessie Belle Badger daughter of Mr and Mrs Amos Badger of Applecreek and Mr Walter Beckler of Applecreek will marry Thursday evening at the Reformed church parsonage Applecreek. Rev Zechiel to perform the ceremony. Families to share a wedding dinner at the bride’s parents home after the ceremony where they will reside.
The Wooster Board of Trade Band presented the first in a series of outdoor concerts last Thursday night under the direction of Prof. Puegner.

Jefferson Pontius a longtime Orrville resident died Friday night at his daughter Mrs George Brennemans home 316 Orr street after years of illness. He is survived by one daughter one brother one sister and was buried in Old Cemetery following services at the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev G H N Beeman.
Massillon piano pupils of Prof M L Wagner will present a recital at Massillon City Hall Thursday at eight in the evening. Participants include Misses Esther Gibson Elma Hershey and Lydia Sprunger. Admission free.
A break in near Pardee Erwin left about $15 in cash and several certificates missing while the family worked in the barn. A certificate stolen from the 1st National Bank of this place was later brought in by a track-walker and identified as one of the stolen items.
Salem Mennonite Church hosts a June 24 evening Children Day Program featuring processional welcome, recitations by Milton Badertscher Harold Welty and others, choir songs including Primary Song and Little Clovers, duets by Magdalene and Dorothy Fankhauser, a women’s and girls’ exercises, offering, and benediction. Local youths including Faithful Helpers, Seeds We Sow, and 8FS tennis players participate.
Sixty sheep claims were allowed Friday by the commissioners for a total of 2840 dollars. The value per head ranged from 5 to 25 dollars, marking the largest claim total to the county in a single year as the dog tax fund nears depletion.
Massillon authorities announce a city wide traffic crackdown. Speeders, men or women, will be fined five dollars upon arrest with no discrimination. Mayor Koontz said the uniform penalty applies to all violators.
War talk and register age notes as about a dozen Kidron youths reach registration age. Plans and specifications available after June 10 1917 at the township office. Bids must name all interested parties and include a performance guarantee. The board may reject any bid.
