Mrs Join C Hofstetter aged 31 wife of Hofstetter died suddenly at her home three miles south of Dalton on Tuesday. She had been ill for some time but death came swiftly. Survived by husband. Funeral Thursday at 1 pm from the home and 2 pm at Sonnenberg Church.
Mrs. Margaret Gillis of this place died at her home on South Church street Thursday evening about six o clock. She was 76 years 3 months and 11 days old and had suffered ill health after a spring fall. Funeral was held at Fredericksburg Sunday last.
Mrs Julia C Groff wife of Dr F Z Groff of Sippo died Monday morning at 11 oclock after ten weeks illness She was 72 and survived by her husband three sons W E Groff and Dr B W Groff of Massillon and A F Groff of Canton and daughter Mrs Mary E Haney of this place five grandchildren Funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the home at 130 and interment was in Pleasant View cemetery C L Arnold funeral director
Charles Nussbaum aged 18, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Nussbaum of near town, was severely injured Saturday evening when his buggy was wrecked by a passing automobile at the Rudy cross roads as he turned off the Lincoln highway.
The management of the Ohio State Fair announces Mrs Sarah Hate of Rural Route 1 Lisbon Ohio won the 10 prize for the official fair slogan. Her entry was the only one submitted in those exact words and the judges were unanimous.
To the Democrats of Wayne County I announce my candidacy for the sheriff nomination subject to the Democratic primaries August 1918. A close second four years ago I also announce my bid for Wayne County Commissioner subject to the August primary. If nominated and elected I will serve efficiently and conscientiously.
A terse notice from D. Kirchhoffer Dal ton offers a selection of general purpose stock hog and poultry fence barb wire No 9 brace wire and gates. The seller states the goods are on hand at his home half a mile south of Sonnenberg station and three miles southwest of Dal ton with a Kidron phone contact.
Miss Ernestine Wyre daughter of Mr and Mrs H D Wyre and Mr Harry Teeple son of Mr and Mrs Allen Teeple of Pleasant Valley were quietly married at the United Presbyterian parsonage Saturday morning with Rev R B Fulton officiating. The couple are popular and well known and receive many good wishes for a happy married life.
A former Dalton reader from Auxier Kentucky mails a $1.50 extension to the Gazette and praises Dalton’s wartime effort. He notes 109 local men in the army, Liberty Loan over quota with $3,061, Red Cross pledge $2,100.61, and an active Red Cross branch with 200 members. Twenty Auxier youths are in France and the town reports strong coal output and hopes for a record crop.
Citizens urged to join as sponsors and contributors on National War Savings Day. Calls for orderly lines at collection points and prompt sign up to support war efforts with financial savings and thrift.
The Board of Education of Sugar Creek township invites sealed bids for janitor work at Dalton schools for the coming year. Bids due by 6 o clock p m July 2 1918 at the clerk’s office. Signed Ira Johnson Clerk.
Peter J. Amstutz has been appointed and qualified as Executor of the estate in Wayne County Ohio. Probate Judge Charles A. Weiser of Wayne County signs the appointment notice.

The county draft board will send 27 draftees to Camp Sherman on June 26 after choosing 33 candidates today. The group will depart Orrville at 11 40 AM by special train and travel to Chillicothe by 5 30 PM, with autos from Wooster likely.
