Walter Brown home on 17th St extension Massillon caught fire early Wednesday morning from an oil cook stove. Mrs. Brown woke to smoke and ferried five children from windows while firefighters rescued a baby. The building and contents were completely destroyed.
A Friday night attempt to burgle McDowell & Son hardware store failed as intruders could not force the rear door. Earlier the same night thieves broke a window at Dualton Exchange Co and rifled an unlocked safe, stealing a small amount of pennies.
Frank W. McAdams son of Mr and Mrs J McAdams of Dalton graduated Monday from Wooster College with a Bachelor of Arts degree He is a Dalton High School graduate and served three years eight months in World War II in Italy and Africa His parents attended the Baccalaureate and Commencement He plans a summer postgraduate course at Wooster
Weekend visitors at the home of Rev L Merrell Marker include Leonard Westrate and family from Detroit with Wendy and Tom, plus Sarah E Marker of Reedsville Pa. Marjorie Marker graduated at Wooster College Monday. Mr and Mrs David Levin of Cambridge Mass are guests this week. Levin is a Harvard teaching fellow on vacation and Mrs Levin is the Marker family’s eldest daughter.
Closing services mark the end of the revival at Pleasant Valley United Brethren Church south of Dalton. The annual homecoming is set for June 19 with special music and a two o'clock afternoon service by speaker Rev. Harry Glaspy of E. Liverpool. Rev. G. A. Shay is pastor.

Mr and Mrs John L Smith of Rural Free Delivery Homeworth announce the marriage of their daughter Annetta to Ray Ovuovpres of Rural Free Delivery Duneworth. The ceremony occurred in Covington Kentucky on May 17. A reception for 100 guests followed at the bride’s parents home on Sunday June 12. The couple will reside in Dalton where they operate a tourist business.
Hazel Nussbaum of Orrville and Harold Himes of Ashland were married in a double ring ceremony at Salem Mennonite Church on June 5 1949 officiated by Rev Irvin Richert. The bride taught in Dalton schools and the groom is an Ashland college student and WW II veteran. They will reside in Ashland until September then move south of Orrville.
Mr and Mrs L M Monbarren attended the Funeral Directors convention in Cincinnati. Over Tuesday to Sunday visitors in the Ernest F Scott home included Mr and Mrs Stanley Tschantz of Columbus Ralph Weisgarber of Mt Eaton and Mr and Mrs Weldon Lehman and daughters Sue Ann Sandra and Jill of Kidron road. E L Springer and Wilfred Brenner attended the annual Secretaries clinic of the Ohio Association of Mutual Insurance Companies in Columbus. About 60 mutual insurance company secretaries from across the state attended. Mr Springer secretary of the Sonnenberg y Mutual of Dalton spoke on The Duties of a Secretary.
The Dalton VFW Post 5534 Ladies Auxiliary met at Town Hall. Final plans were set for the 2nd Anniversary Party on June 21 at 8 PM with euchre bingo and refreshments. Joella Poorman read a letter from Congressman McSweeney about HR 4617 unemployment amendment.
Miss Jeannette Miller daughter of Mrs Myrle Miller and Mel Schaefer of Mentor are engaged. No wedding date set. Jeannette is a Dalton high school and Oberlin Commercial college graduate. Schaefer attended Mentor high, Oberlin Commercial college and served in the US Navy. He works with his father in Schaefer Roofing Company.
Claren Sommer son of Mr and Mrs A B Sommer of Kidron has graduated from Bluffton College with a Bachelor of School Music degree. He is organist at the Episcopal church in Lima Ohio and has previously served as organist at Salem Mennonite church and Bluffton Mennonite church for several years. He accompanied the Mens Glee club and the quartet the Fine Shades and has given several organ recitals.
The Board met in regular session on June 6 with plans to repaint the music room and hallways, hire janitors Emerson Flostetler and Rev Marion Berg, and award a three year bus driver contract to Farl Bixler. They consider bids for roof work, approve a non tax increasing two mill operating levy renewal, and discuss short term investments to fund the Kidran and Dalton building project.
The Hot Stove League announces practice and games for under 15 players starting June 15 against Apple Creek. The 15 16 17 age group plays June 22 at home with Marshallville. No practice Thursday evening.
