In Wooster Ohio on April 21 1910 the Soldiers Relief Commission explains that relief applications for the coming year will be collected from May and due by May 31. No relief will be paid June through September 1910 with eight equal monthly payments October to May.
Frederick Becker a Dalton resident and staunch unionist died at the Soldiers' Home in Sandusky last Friday at age 78. Born in Mecklenburg Germany in 1852 he emigrated in 1860 and served in the 8th New York Cavalry for four years. The funeral was held in Dalton with G A R honors and Rev Lehn preaching at the cemetery.
Wooster mayor Feeman plans to close the city brewery, asserting illegal operation. A meeting with company officers occurred Monday, with directors to decide whether to quit voluntarily or contest. Proceedings will also target the Bowman distillery.
Farmers are invited to compete in Ohio for the largest corn yield per acre in 1910. Entries are free and due August 20. Husking must occur between November 1 and 15. First prize last year was 122 bushels per acre, with eight prizes totaling 100 to 10 dollars.
Children’s Day will be observed at the Presbyterian church next Sabbath evening June 12 at 7 30 with appropriate exercises. A general invitation is extended to the public to be present.
The Sun day Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Sorosis, a major women’s group, held its annual meeting at the arcade clubrooms with reports from officers and committee chairs. About 200 attendees enjoyed a noon luncheon. Mrs. H. H. Cully, former Dalton resident, led as president for three years and declined reelection, praised for her grace and service as members honored her with a Sorosis pin set with diamonds.
Enumeration of youth in Dalton village district shows a decline from last year. Total school age youths numbered 166 with 78 males and 88 females.

The Reliance acetylene lighting system is being installed this week at the Hotel Poorman meat market and Hall in West Lebanon. It lights the new residence of Mr. J. Sibila of N Lawrence and the home of S. D. Burkholder of Smithville, as Burkholder chooses a second Reliance Generator.
Mrs. Alex Spade committed death by own action at her Wooster home Sunday noon. She ingested carbolic acid laudanum and chloroform obtained the day before from a Wooster drug store claiming corn relief and toothache. Second wife of Alex Spade a Wooster Machine Co. machinist married last September. No known cause except religious excitement. She had shown signs of mental unbalance recently.

Class No 5 of the Methodist Sunday School will serve ice cream and cake in the Santmyer room Saturday night next. Proceeds support church activities.
Ohio's Sunday School Association prepares for the State Sunday School Convention to be held in Cleveland June 14 to 16. Noted speakers include Marion Lawrence J O excell Margaret Slattery Dr W N Gustwell and others. The program features an institute bazaar Bible demonstrations lectures on Missions Archaeology inspirational messages music and a major business session with special railroad rates and programs available June 1.
The Jersey Cow Sale at J W Walters residence Wooster on June 1 drew many bidders despite rain. About 50 head sold to buyers from Seville Sterling Lodi Burbank Wadsworth Orrville Marshallville North Lawrence Dalton Mt. Eaton Jeromesville Loudonville and Holmes County. Next sale notice will be published and cards mailed to interested parties.

Wayne County Commissioners vote to increase the levy by half a percent citing higher election costs from a primary, quadrennial reappraisal expenses, and courthouse repairs as reasons for the higher tax burden.
Coal buyers can obtain demand fulfilled by the Dalton Milling Co. A large car of fine lump coal has just been received for prompt supply to customers.

The Men's Bible Class of the Methodist Sunday school will hold a special service Sunday morning. The program, led by class president Mr. C. F. Buchwalter, includes songs, solos, and reviews with Miss Bessie Meek of Massillon performing. All are invited to attend.
Ashland Holmes Knox Medina and Wayne counties plan a tuberculosis hospital at Apple Creek in Wayne County. Secretary of state records show 122 TB deaths across the five counties last year, with Ashland 21 Holmes 17 Knox 32 Medina 14 Wayne 38. Dr. C O Probst says a hospital is needed for about half that number, roughly 60 to 70 patients.
Dalton village board of education met last Thursday with all members present. The group finished the school year business approved teachers salaries and other bills. The annual tax levy for school purposes was set at 8 mills for tuition and 4 mills for contingencies. H. F. Longenecker was re elected superintendent along with the remaining staff J. I. Budd grammar Adah M. Harshey intermediate Ada B. Cully primary and Geo Stumpf as janitor.
Christian Nussbaum Sr aged 72 died Monday evening at his Sonnenberg home from dropsy and age related complications. He leaves a wife and two sons Christian and David. A funeral was held yesterday forenoon at the Sonnenberg church.
