Secretary of State Graves announces no primaries in Dalton or other towns under 2000 population for fall elections. Candidates must file petitions with at least 25 electors 60 days before the November vote, and ballots will show no party designations where no primaries are held.

Mrs Earl Locke entertained her S S class with a porch party on Thursday evening July 3 with flags bunting and Chinese lanterns. Dainty refreshments were served by the hostess aided by her sister Mrs Paul Johnson of Ashland a house guest. The evening featured social chat and music on the graphophone.
A Saturday rain shower gave way to light afternoon rain before a heavy northwest wind storm with thunder and lightning. The wind caused tree damage but was short-lived, with rain tapering by 8:30 PM. The storm cooled the area, yielding a welcome relief from earlier heat through Sunday and Monday.
The Gazette notes a swamp at Burton City being cleared after a day-long rain. It reports a Log Cabin club discussion in Dalton and a corn comparison dispute between M Shoub and Dr Roebuck. Mrs A E Warner from Unionville visited Miss Ilva Welty, and August Schultz visits Dalton. John H Tschantz’s barn and contents were destroyed by a lightning strike Sunday night. A coal bank on the Spindler place near Burton City will open with J R Roebuck moving machinery to start by August 1.
Twenty-five tons of dynamite discharged at 12 15 P M Wednesday at Santa Rita in the Hearst cut east of the camp. The blast removed 200000 cubic yards of dirt capping the ore. Millions of rocks flew into the air while a dust cloud drifted over Kneeling Nun. No injuries reported due to strict precautions by Chino Copper Co officials.

At a regular board meeting last Thursday J. F. Budd and Misses Adah M. Hershey and Ada B. Cully were reelected for the next school year. E. Drew of Massillon was elected music teacher.
The regular W C T U meeting gathered at the U S parsonage last Wednesday with many in attendance. Mrs Thomas Cully Mrs H B Jameson Mrs W E Scott and Mrs Fred Farmer spoke. Rev W H Hubbell offered encouragement and Margery Owens performed a violin solo. An open meeting is planned with a committee to arrange it. The next gathering will be at Mrs W E Scotts home.
A barn and straw shed on John Niddinger’s farm one mile south of Doylestown were struck by lightning Saturday evening and burned to the ground. The loss included 14 tons of hay, 200 bushels of oats, chickens, a dog, and part of family tools, with $900 insurance on the barn.

Sealed bids must reach Clerk Ernest F. Scott of the Dalton Board of Education by 5 p.m. on Thursday August 7, 1913 for janitor duties in Dalton schools for the ensuing year. The board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.
A thunderstorm struck Medina during the Friday noon Fourth of July event at the fair grounds. Three men under a tree died: Wilcox S. Barr 70 a poultry breeder of Greenwich. Harry Sayers 69 a Civil War veteran of Medina. Clarence Geyer 18 son of Mr and Mrs Frey Geyer Harveyville five miles from Medina. A fourth man near the grand stand died at six pm. The aerial act by the Aerial Howards continued briefly as the storm hit. Oscar Brindley’s biplane tent was blown down and their aircraft damaged.
Illustrated lectures will be given at the Ohio State Fair by instructors from the College of Agriculture Ohio State University. Subjects cover leading agricultural topics with lantern slides aiding explanations. Sessions are at 10 11 1 30 and 2 30 daily during September 1 to 5.

Ernest Tritt aged 13 of near Comet was fatally injured when riding the lead horse of a team pulling a binder. A hat loss spooked the mules, the horse and rider went under the binder, a deep head wound and skull injury proved fatal. Doctors Dissinger and Hindman treated him at home.
A festival is planned on the Must Greenville school grounds in Ohio on Saturday night July 12 1913. Ite Creane Cake Herries and other delicacies will be served. Music by the 11th Regt Band of Dalton. Proceeds go to the Cemetery association.
The Wooster field reports 30 producing oil wells and 4 gas wells. Daily output ranges from 500 to 600 barrels of oil. Gas wells contribute 2,600,000 cubic feet daily to East Ohio Gas mains, supporting drilling and pumping.
Four acts approved sixty days ago become law. They set penalties for false weights and measures, concealed weapons, passing on turnpikes and roads, and false statements about bank or corporate solvency with fines up to $1000 or two years' imprisonment.
