Paul Stockham the mayor-elect will assume charge January 1 in Dalton. He invites residents and taxpayers to attend council sessions and discuss proposals, urging active civic involvement and openness at meetings. Appointments to be filled will likely be announced mid January.
Miss Mary Holley of Akron spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs G A Berg. Mr and Mrs D H Scott and family spend holidays at Stockport. Vernon Hofstetter of Detroit visits Mrs Anna Hofstetter. Prof Ross Wyre of Philadelphia stays a week with his mother here. Mr and Mrs E L Slusser spend Christmas in Massillon at Mrs Ida Ralston’s home. Miss Cora Wecht of Milwaukee spends holidays with her parents here. Mr and Mrs John Martin of Lattasburg guests of Elmer Martin Friday. Foster Cook of Detroit and Ralph Cook of Canton spend Christmas with Will Cook. Mr and Mrs Wm C Leedale and son Billy of Elyria spend weekend with E F Scott. Carl Lawrence and Mrs Amanda Lawrence attend funeral of Mrs Warren Saure in Wooster. Mrs Grace Weber of Akron spends Christmas with her mother Mrs Otilla Poorman and the Frank Wilford family. Mrs L L DeArment celebrated Christmas in Corpus Christi Texas where fireworks and horn blowing were in order. Mr and Mrs John Smith and sons of Massillon and Mr and Mrs Louis Theiling of Akron guests of J W Smedley on Christmas. Mr and Mrs Russell McFarren of Massillon Ted McFarren and Mr and Mrs Chas Oschenreider and family of Akron guests of Mrs Harriett McFarren on Christmas.
The earliest known express service was organized in 1836 to operate over the Boston Taunton railway, marking an early milestone in rapid transport on that route.
Eckard Bros expects no immediate Firestone price change while general business in 1937 holds despite employment slumps. Carl Lawrence owns a century old black walnut log planned for decorative lumber this winter. 1938 wallpaper fashions arrive with little change from last year.
The Community Club started a seasonal display contest this year to grow rapidly. Dalton decorates for Christmas with three prizes to spur interest, and a larger response is expected next year. First prize of 5 dollars went to Bud McDowell for his symphony in blue. Second prize of 3 dollars went to Lee Douglas for his display. Third prize of 2 dollars went to Dean Norris. Numerous other displays earned favorable mentions.
Dr Lee L DeArment spoke on obedience at a Boy Scouts Christmas eve gathering. Don and King the Great Danes performed surp rising stunts to applause and followed commands, illustrating self control. Each child received an orange and gifts were given to the Danes.
A ragged ad roundup notes a D. H. S. Alumni banquet in the school auditorium Thursday night. It lists prize baskets awarded to Oliver Homan, Mrs. Lavina Close and Dale Goudy at Slusser's grocery, plus a snowman at Thompson's weighing 10 pounds 524 ounces.
The Trustees of Sugar Creek Two. will hold their last meeting for the year at Dalton Town hall Friday December 31st at one o'clock. E. F. Scott, Clerk.
Mrs Stella Houghton Bridson formerly of this place died at her Akron home on Tuesday December 28 1937 on her 48th birthday after a two week illness. She leaves her husband two daughters two sisters Grace Leathers Akron Lulu Switzer Dover and two brothers W H Houghton Marion Hugh Houghton Mulberry Fla. Funeral at Grace Reformed church Akron Friday at 1 pm. Burial Chestnut Hill cemetery.
Funeral services for Frank James Morgan 66 who died Christmas Eve at home were held Monday at 2 30 p m at West Lebanon Methodist church with Rev H F Lindsey officiating Interment followed in Union cemetery West Lebanon Morgan who operated a meat and grocery business in West Lebanon for 18 years retired two years ago is survived by his widow Macy two daughters Mrs Mary Lax of West Lebanon and Mrs Mildred Schro men of Orrville one son Raymond O Morgan Wayne County prosecuting attorney and four grandchildren
Christmas dinner hosted by Mr. and Mrs. A. J Kurzen brings together P. S. Berg Mary Berg Glen Berg Ralph Kurzen and family Vaughn and Deloris Jennie Kurzen L. G. Flanagan Massillon Miss Jennie Cully Mrs Anna Knesal Vineland Edwin and Walter Kurzen E Ober Ruth New Philadelphia. At dessert Miss Cully announced the engagement of Jennie Kurzen to David Lehman.
Edna Ressler daughter of Mr and Mrs Jos Ressler and Marion Brubaker of Orrville son of Mr and Mrs Ezra Brubaker were married on Christmas day at the Ressler home in Orrville. Rev Alva J Wengerd officiated with Miss Amy Wengerd and Mr Earl Ressler as attendants. About 30 guests attended and luncheon followed the ceremony before a short wedding trip east.
