Dalton's Big Night at the Band Carnival in Dalton

A Dalton festival drew five to six thousand attendees and about a thousand automobiles, with three bands Massillon Creston and Dalton providing concert music. Gross proceeds reached 1 111 11 to benefit the band, while gratitude went to participants donors and organizers for a record largest crowd in Dalton history.

Civil War Veteran Stinson Dies at 74 in Dalton

Robert J Stinson aged 74 died at his home Wednesday after a ten month illness. A Dalton businessman and longtime rural mail carrier, he served in the Civil War. He is survived by his wife son Harry sister Mrs Anna McAfee and numerous relatives. Funeral services set for Saturday at two at the Methodist church.

Mrs Ada Baughman Barnard wife of John Barnard died at the home of Mrs Lena Barnard East Orange street Thursday afternoon August 11 after a long illness Funeral services were held at 1 30 p m Sunday at the home and burial followed at Evergreen cemetery She was born August 17 1881 in Orrville Ohio married John Barnard May 14 1903 and left a son Jay She leaves her mother Mrs Robert Stinson of Dalton sister Mrs D W McGlewen of Cleveland and brothers O W Baughman B Baughman of Cantor and J A Baughman of Ashtabula.

Daring Escape of Maj McCullough at Fort Henry and Wheel ing

Story recalls Maj Sam McCullough leading 40 men from Fort Pitt in 1777 to lift a siege on Fort Henry Wheeling. He rode a cliff edge escape, leaping a 50 foot drop and crossing 250 feet to safety, then returned to Fort Pitt. Five years later he was killed in an ambush near Van Metre's gut.
