School Opens September Fifth Dalton Sugar Creek Township

Preparations wrap up as five high school rooms are redecorated with new colors from a DuPont representative. Teachers meet Monday at 9:00 am, with classes starting Tuesday at 8:40 Central Standard Time and half-day sessions continuing through Wednesday. Bus routes largely unchanged. staff changes include Dean Hummel replacing Mrs Chovan and Marilyn Steiner replacing Mrs Himes.

D W I Driver Fined In Mayor Court Case

In Mayor's Court Dan B. Yoder of Sugarcreek was fined $100 and costs for driving while intoxicated after being brought in by Deputy Marshal Garman. Fred Ryland of Mansfield was fined $10 and costs for speeding inside the corporation.

Mr Herbert E Leonard Visits Dalton After 62 Years

Richmond Virginia resident Mr Herbert E Leonard who ran Dalton Stove Works from 1882 to 1888 visited the Gazette office last Thursday. He traveled from Toledo with relatives to see Dalton’s growth since his last stay sixty two years ago near the Buckeye Feed Mill area.

Dalton Banner a 1875 forerunner to the Dalton Gazette

Seventy five years ago in August 1875 the Dalton Banner issued by WC Scott served as Dalton’s first paper and forerunner of the Dalton Gazette which began Oct 5 1875. It mixed local news merchant notices church listings physicians and town events with a Seldom victory over Orrville in a ball game 55 to 25.

Band Concert and Walnut Creek Festival

Band members report to the hall in uniform at 7 15 p.m. for a 7 30 p.m. Saturday concert on August 26 1950, followed by a festival at Walnut Creek. The event, organized by the Band Committee, promises music and community celebration.

Local Couple Hosts Dinner for Newlyweds in Warren Ohio

Rev Willard Hartzell of Canton led last week’s service with a note of welcome. Mr and Mrs H H Werner hosted a dinner Sunday morning at 10 30 in honor of Mr and Mrs Clark Weimer of Warren Ohio who are newlyweds. Also present were Mr and Mrs Eugene Edwards.

Davis couple returns from New England Ontario trip

Mr and Mrs Harold R. Davis report two weeks of sightseeing through the New England states and Ontario Lake of Bays country. Harold praises the fishing while Mrs Davis caught the largest fish, a 64 pound lake trout. They describe the vacation as splendid.

Resslers visit Jackson relatives during two week stay

Mr and Mrs William Ressler of Jackson visited Dalton relatives at the Kile Lintern home. Ressler, a Tennessee National Guard member, traveled with his father Charles sister June and brother Stanford to Jackson for a two weeks visit.

Board of Education Passes Bond Issue Plan

The district moves to submit a bond issue to voters to complete Dalton and Kidron school buildings and to fund a cafeteria and auxiliary facilities. Other actions include hiring a Driving Training Instructor and an art teacher, approving the budget, and assigning bus routes and tires.

Youth loses finger in mowing accident near Orrville

Merl Edwin Berg 17 of Orrville Ohio lost the index finger of his left hand at the knuckle Monday afternoon while helping his father on the Berg farm five miles north of Orrville on Route 94. The incident occurred during second cutting of hay.

A daughter was born Saturday morning to Mr and Mrs Arthur Barkman of RD 2 Massillon at the city hospital. A son named Craig Gerald arrived Aug 18 to Mr and Mrs Gerald Harms of Toledo, weight 8 pounds 360 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Adelbert Mooney of Akron and Mrs Mooney formerly Miss Margery Scott of this place.

Local Hospital Discharges Mention Several Patients

Mrs Irene Stugg was released from Community hospital Wooster Monday after surgery. Mrs Amanda Denbrook returned Friday from Wissillend city hospital Monbarren by ambulance and stays at her son Russell’s residence. Jerry Shisler, recently injured, is much improved at home. Mrs Carl Brown was brought home from Massillon city hospital and shows improved condition.
