Barn on Kick Farm Razed by Lightning Fire

A large barn on John C Kick farm one mile west of Dalton was destroyed by a lightning strike during a storm. Neighbors alerted Dalton firefighters who drew water from milk cans after tanker water ran out. Livestock were rescued. 500 bushels of wheat hay, a tractor trailer and farm wagon were lost. Roof damaged milk house replaced. loss about 10 000 dollars. insured. Community offers sympathy.

Night Auction Draws Large Crowd at Kidron Cow Sale

One of the largest crowds attended the Harry Blosser Cow Sale in Kidron on August 10. Seventy cows sold for 21 676 dollars, top bid 570 dollars, with Holsteins Jerseys and Ayshires represented. The sale was described as a huge success for Mr Blosser and attendees.

Fatal Truck Collision With Railroad near Sippo

Harold Cormany of Akron driving to a Kidron auction with two cows and a calf was killed when his truck collided with a switch engine on the W and L railroad crossing Rt 93 at Sippo. Passengers Frederick Haube 68 and sons Frederick Jr 16 and Robert 11 of Uniontown were in the truck. Haube died later at Massillon Hospital and the two boys were injured. One cow was killed. The driver escaped injury.

Community Picnic Planned at Dalton Memorial Park

Arrangements are under way for a community picnic at Dalton Memorial Park on Thursday August 26 with dinner at 6 30 PM. Attendees are asked to bring well filled baskets and own table service. Free bingo ice cream coffee and lemonade will be provided. Local businesses will be solicited for prize merchandise.

Military Rites For P F C Donald Krug

Funeral services for P F C Donald R. Krug killed in action May 25 1944 near Cisterna Italy while with Co F 30th U S Infantry were held August 14 1948 at Des Voignes funeral home Mt Eaton with Rev W R Gobrecht officiating. Burial followed at Dalton cemetery under Dalton Post 5534 VFW. Survived by parents Roy and Mrs Krug a brother Ernest Krug and grandmother Mrs Lewis Hauenstein all of R D Dalton.

Dalton Carnival Draws Large Crowd of Season

A large crowd attended the Dalton carnival last Thursday night as the event drew one of the season’s biggest turnouts. The Gazette announces a subscription rate increase to $2.00 starting Sept. 1 due to production costs more than doubling.

Miss Faye Moser and Marion Tschantz were married at the Presbyterian parsonage with Rev. Spence officiating. Attendants included the bride’s sister-in-law and the groom’s brother as best man. Dalton couple wed in formal ceremony at family home
