Town police chief funds own upgrades in small department
Police Chief Raymond Berg has modernized his village’s force by converting a storage shed into a 12 by 18 foot police station at 401 West Main Street. He installed a home built desk and a two way radio base, maintains patrol communications with state and nearby agencies, and uses his own car as a cruiser. A new patrolman is badly needed after the resignation of the previous officer.

Fourth Annual 4 H Club Fair Attracts Large Dalton Crowd
A sizable Wednesday crowd attended Dalton's fourth annual 4 H club fair on Main Street. Club advisors Carl Buchwalter and junior leader John Buchwalter organized the event to teach showmanship for larger fairs. Thirty seven Boys Big Four 4 H members exhibited swine sheep cattle poultry rope work woodwork and electric projects while 63 Girls Stitch and Chatter members showcased cooking baking salads and sewing. The Dalton Chamber of Commerce aided the fair with managers Guy Snyder Roy Hackett and Dan Eberly guiding organizers along with committee members Mrs Elmer Wenger Mrs William Snyder Mrs Al Cazan Mrs Harlan Thompson Mrs Ralph Kurzen and Mrs Clair Eckard.

Edward Kurzen 68 and Ralph Kurzen 47 of Dalton were hurt in an accident near the East Union underpass on Rt. 20. Ralph suffered a fractured right ankle while Edward had lacerations and abrasions to both knees. They were treated at Dunlap hospital in Orrville.
