Town police chief funds own upgrades in small department

Police Chief Raymond Berg has modernized his village’s force by converting a storage shed into a 12 by 18 foot police station at 401 West Main Street. He installed a home built desk and a two way radio base, maintains patrol communications with state and nearby agencies, and uses his own car as a cruiser. A new patrolman is badly needed after the resignation of the previous officer.

Farewell Picnic For Missionaries Rev Hostettler Family

Relatives and friends are invited to a fellowship picnic dinner and farewell for Rev David Hostettler Mrs Hostettler and son Michael as they prepare to serve as missionaries in Brazil South America. Dalton Village Council approves three year fuel contract and lighting upgrade

The Dalton village council passed an ordinance renewing a three year contract with Ohio Fuel Gas Co. of Mansfield and amended the Ohio Edison Co. contract to increase street light illumination. A second reading approved Schultz Ave as a 30 foot street. Next meeting is Monday evening September 12.

Fourth Annual 4 H Club Fair Attracts Large Dalton Crowd

A sizable Wednesday crowd attended Dalton's fourth annual 4 H club fair on Main Street. Club advisors Carl Buchwalter and junior leader John Buchwalter organized the event to teach showmanship for larger fairs. Thirty seven Boys Big Four 4 H members exhibited swine sheep cattle poultry rope work woodwork and electric projects while 63 Girls Stitch and Chatter members showcased cooking baking salads and sewing. The Dalton Chamber of Commerce aided the fair with managers Guy Snyder Roy Hackett and Dan Eberly guiding organizers along with committee members Mrs Elmer Wenger Mrs William Snyder Mrs Al Cazan Mrs Harlan Thompson Mrs Ralph Kurzen and Mrs Clair Eckard.

Kurzen brothers injured in Rt. 20 underpass crash

Edward Kurzen 68 and Ralph Kurzen 47 of Dalton were hurt in an accident near the East Union underpass on Rt. 20. Ralph suffered a fractured right ankle while Edward had lacerations and abrasions to both knees. They were treated at Dunlap hospital in Orrville.

Kruschenske Attend Cumberland Funeral of Nephew

Mr and Mrs Chas Kruschenske were called to Cumberland Ohio by the death of their nephew Charles Dudley 44 from a heart attack. Mr and Mrs John Lower and family from Cumberland Md attended the funeral with Susan Lower returning home with her grandparents for a week's visit.

McAdams Family Concludes 3000 Mile Southern Motor Trip

Mr and Mrs J C McAdams and their son Frank returned Saturday from a 3000 mile motor trip through the South. They visited Tampa St Petersburg New Orleans Mobile and crossed the Pontchartrain Bridge. They travelled through Alabama Georgia Tennessee and Kentucky on the return.

Dalton Village approves three year natural gas pricing ordinance

The Dalton Village Council enacts a three year rate plan for The Ohio Fuel Gas Company with a minimum monthly charge of 1.50 and a stepped rate structure for gas usage. The ordinance repeals the 1945 ordinance and requires company acceptance within 30 days to take effect, with heat value not less than 900 BTU per cubic foot.

Village of Dalton amends street lighting contract with Ohio Edison

An ordinance amends Ordinance No 156 from 1945 to install larger lighting units and update rates for existing and new street lights. It repeals former terms and sets monthly payments of 1200 dollars plus added per unit annual fees, contingent on written acceptance by Ohio Edison within 30 days. August 8 1955.
