Annual Carnival Big Success in Dalton Crowds

The 11th Regt Band Carnival in Dalton drew an estimated six to seven thousand attendees from Akron and nearby towns. Orrville Massillon Brewster and other areas joined crowds lining Main Street and the school field. Orrville City Band Brewster Band V F W Drum Corps Massillon performed along with Garver's Melody Kings. Garver Garage hosted dancing as Haverstock and Davis opened, with all concessions sold out and cleanup following until morning.

Dalton carnival feeds crowd and raises funds in 1939

A Dalton event drew a large crowd with 240 lb of hamburgers and 100 lb of hot dogs sold, plus a busy country store and sold items totaling 75.55 in net proceeds. Pigs chickens and a sheep were briefly traded back to donors as fun purchases. Democratic caucus delayed to Aug 24. many local notices follow.

Missionary Picnic by Women's Missionary Society

The Presbyterian church group will meet Thursday August 17 at 2 pm for a program in the church. Afterward a picnic dinner will be served on the grade school campus. Mrs J F Steiner, a returned missionary from China, will deliver the principal address. The program is in charge of Mrs Cloyce Goudy and Mrs C R McDowell.

Infant Ward Dies in Massillon Hospital

Three month old Billy Ward son of Mr and Mrs Elton Ward of Massillon died early Saturday in Massillon city hospital. Burial is Tuesday morning in Dalton cemetery. He is survived by his parents and a brother. Mrs Ward was formerly Margaret Mumaw of this place.

Thanksgiving Day Date Change Announced for Year

President Roosevelt announced Thanksgiving would be observed on November 23 instead of the traditional last Thursday. The change aims to aid business by giving a week more between Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

Community Club To Meet For Farmer Guest Night

The Community Club will meet Thursday evening August 17 at 6 30 in the Methodist dining room. The ladies of the church will serve baked ham Irish potatoes succotash vegetable platter raisin pickles bread butter jelly home made ice cream devil s food cake coffee.

Chemurgic Exhibit At Ohio State Fair

A chemurgic exhibit showing chemistry at work on the farm will be a feature of the Ohio State Fair from August 26 to September 1. The display aims to broaden views of farmers and industrialists on crops processed into industrial products, with plastics, paints, oils, and more demonstrated alongside operating machinery. Governor Bricker appointed a 32 member Ohio Chemurgic Commission led by Dean Cunningham to survey the state's chemurgic potential. over twenty major plants have shipped exhibits for the fairgrounds.
