Springfield Sept 12 The state auditor plans a mandamus suit against the insolvent Illinois Building and Loan association of Bloomington. The attorney general refuses to prosecute. It promises a heated clash between the auditor and the attorney general.
A Northeastern Nebraska and Western Iowa dispatch to The Bee notes killing frosts in the region. Late flax and garden truck crops are reported killed or badly damaged across parts of Iowa.

Washington September 12 Ex Governor Zulich of Arizona writes to the president opposing the plan to move Chief Geronimo and his Apaches from Mount Vernon barracks Alabama to their former Arizona reservation. He criticizes the decision as a return to conditions from Fort Pickens Florida under President Cleveland and calls the Chirichua band the most cruel savages in the continent.
Hinckley Minn Sept 12 The North Pine County forest fires left death and destruction but also cleared land on about 480 square miles. The blaze burned roughly 220,800 acres, making shrubs and trees vanish in hours and replacing years of work with a single devastating event.
Warrants issued for the arrest of President C. C. Cheney and John Ohmes of the Western Bank Note company. They agreed to appear voluntarily and give bail of $5,000 each to face charges in St. Louis on November 5, the same charge as against Mississippi’s governor, auditor and treasurer.
In Wroona Minnesota on September 12 a Chicago and North Western freight train split on Stockton Bluff, the two sections colliding. One tramp was killed and another man was crushed in the legs with doubtful chances of recovery.

The death warrants ordering the execution of Otto Wonigkeit alias Otto Milhausen and Charles Ermisch were delivered to Sheriff Chapel at 9 40 a m. A receipt was given by Chief Deputy Irish and later verified by Sheriff Chapel.
Reports from all railway lines indicate danger from forest fires is well over for the present. Fires burn in brush around Barnum and near Cloquet but trains are not delayed.

John Urich, a miner, used a revolver to fatally shoot City Marshal Donaldson and seriously wound M. E. Tobias, of Star Coal, as officers tried to quell a scene with Urich’s released cow. Urich fled with a posse pursuing, later surrendering to Sheriff Taylor in Ottawa, Illinois.
Iron ore shipments from head of Lake Superior ports remain heavy through September. Ashland sent 85 000 tons last week for a season total of 1 230 000 tons, while Duluth and Two Harbors have 124 000 tons since Sept 1 reaching 1 900 000 tons for the season. Escanaba and Marquette contribute about 1 100 000 and 710 000 tons respectively, pushing regional totals to 4 940 000 tons with two months left in the season.

Albany September 12 The constitutional convention in committee of the whole adopted a resolution cutting the governor and lieutenant governor term from three to two years and requiring the state engineer to be a practical civil engineer in all cases.
In New Orleans on September 12, spreading rails caused a serious Shell Beach railroad wreck. Julius Applemans, 16, was killed almost instantly. Willie F. Locke, also 16, died later of his injuries. Engineer Crawford survived with serious injuries.
