Five farmers from three miles north of Arabella Missouri robbed a Santa Fe train at Gorin. Two were captured in Memphis Tennessee with one wounded man shot six times by a Winchester and not expected to live. Captured men are Charles Abrams and Lincoln Overfield with Abrams critically wounded.
A freight car on the Chicago Milwaukee and St. Paul line between North and South McGregor opposite Prairie du Chien Wisconsin was broken open and 50 sacks of flour stolen. The conductor saw the thieves who fled by boat before alarm could be given. Darkness aided the escape as officers search for the culprits.
Five youths aged 9 to 15, all described as negro, were arrested in Lamar Missouri and brought to St Louis. They confess to breaking into the Devore Fruit Company store here last Saturday night and cracking the safe, from which over $500 in cash was stolen. They implicate other boys in the act.
In Dusverk Iowa Sept 19 Jack Driscoll was fined and imprisoned for beating his sister in law. The crippled justice Squire Cooney was knocked to the floor by Driscoll during sentencing, suffering serious injuries.
John D Cameron, a New York telegraph operator, is charged with larceny of 2800 dollars from Leander J Stowell, a New York stock broker. He was lodged at Central Station for safekeeping by Detective James McCafferty after capture at Helena.
The National Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners opened its eighth general convention in the house of representatives hall with 200 delegates from 101 unions across 82 states and four districts. Governor Matthews welcomed the delegates as General Secretary J P McGuire of Philadelphia responded. The gathering began in secret session focusing on credentials and the committee will adopt a new constitution.
A tornado swept through Jennings and Mining Oklahoma killing a young woman and two children and injuring several others. About 50 houses were destroyed by the storm fire followed in Mining and spread beyond. Mining lies about 40 miles from the nearest railroad and details are scarce.
Albany Sept 19 Governor Flower declined to be a candidate for renomination after a long interview with Senators Hill and Murphy. He told an AP reporter he believed his nomination would not command the full party vote as would another Democrat, and he favored party success over personal candidacy.
Fayette county's official count at noon shows Breckinridge ahead of Owens by 205, with no contest or protest. Bourbon county tally due at 2 pm. The Leader prints a seven county official plus Bourbon unofficial table noting Owens 8,072 to Breckinridge 7,803 and Settle 3,391, Owens's 269 plurality, figures deemed practically final.
President appoints Charles H. Mansur of Missouri as assistant comptroller of the treasury. Mansur previously held the second comptroller post, an office abolished by the Dockery commission, marking a change in Treasury leadership.

A Ping Yang dispatch notes the Chinese Army suffered over 17 000 losses in two days of battle with Japan claiming 14 500 Chinese prisoners not all wounded and the rest either wounded in Japanese hands or unhurt prisoners. Japanese cavalry pursue fleeing rivals as passes are secured and the emperor and field marshal commend the troops.
Consul E W S Tingle of Brunswick Germany reports to the state department that Germany lacks skilled furniture makers due to scarce wood and fewer domestic furniture items. He argues there is a favorable field for exporting American furniture as German production is not meeting demand.
General George L. Becker resigns his post on the railroad and warehouse commission and will devote time before the first Tuesday in November to campaigning for the Democratic state ticket of which he is the leader.
Negotiations close for Minnesota Iron company to buy the McInnis mine on the Mesaba range from D T Adams Neil McInnis R Schell and others for about 150000 dollars. The adjacent Rancheleau mine is under option for 200000 dollars and a Duluth and Iron Range road will be built to the site with plans to ship heavily next year.
The board of general appraisers, in an opinion by T. S. Sharretts, says Schedule K of the new tariff act does not take effect until Jan 1, 1895. However all fabrics from wool worsteds camel hair goat alpaca or other animals remain dutiable under the McKinley act until that date.
Deer River Minnesota dispatch reports the Bow String Indians left town drunk and near Ball Club lake Bob Moseman fell from a trader's wagon badly injuring both legs when wheels ran over them. The White Oak Indians are said to be drinking.
Paris reports the official wheat crop totaled 121,002,781 hectolitres for 1894, up from 97,792,080 hectolitres in 1893. The increase over last year is 23,210,701 hectolitres.
Breckinridge says he holds a majority of district Democratic votes and that fraud occurred in Fayette and Franklin counties. He asserts the district committee alone can name the nominee and vows to contest as needed, reserving action until next Saturday.

Republicans in Eighth Iowa district mobilize speakers against fusion. Iowa Democrats may nominate Judge Delano to oppose General Weaver. Lightweight champ Arthur Mullins dies at Fort Hamilton inebriate home.
In St. Louis the United States district court handed down Judge Hallets decision in Wellington Adams et al v The Lindell Railroad. The ruling favors the defendants and affects patentable features of electric street railway motors in use. Adams claimed priority of invention. General Electric was also represented.
Attorney Taylor Crum swears out a warrant for the arrest of Deputy U S Marshal W B Daggett on criminal libel charges. The dispute stems from Daggett in The Sunday Argus calling Crum a dead beat blackmailing apology for a lawyer liar and contemptible shyster.
Consuls Fostorgio Caldwero and Huie were acknowledged as representatives of Salvador and Peru respectively in San Francisco, confirming diplomatic status and local recognition of their offices. The reports note their postings and formal recognition by the host city authorities.
