A Clair Pattee Dramatic company member dislocated his jaw on a train between Pierre and Miller. The incident, reportedly from bracing the conductor, was treated by a Miller physician allowing him to continue the show.
Fairfield of Oneida visited Tuesday with German carp raised in his Forestburg lake. Forty young fish were released four years ago and now the lake holds an abundance, including a six and three quarter pound dressed specimen. Plans were made to bring more fish for the artesian well lake here.
Preliminary returns suggest strong Republican gains in Pennsylvania and New York. Virginia hosts a major Mahone contest while Massachusetts experiments with the Australian ballot. Ohio appears to reelect Gov. Foraker. A blizzard roars through New Mexico impacting prospects of turnout.
President Benjamin Harrison proclaims the admission of North Dakota and South Dakota as states. The proclamations, dated November 2, 1889, follow the act of Congress of February 22, 1889, detailing the Sioux Falls constitution, the Prohibition Article, and the division of Dakota debts and records. Proekspuna Nov 5 General Mahone was arrested for shooting Herbert P Harrison who, with companions, fired fireworks in front of Mahone’s residence. Harrison was wounded in the thigh as Mahone denies firing the shot and Mayor Collier investigates at the station house.
Nov 5. Attorney Boyce filed a bill for divorce for a client, the first paper filed in South Dakota as a state. Parties are not known locally and the grounds are inhuman treatment.
Solomon Wenzloff editor of the Dakota Freie Presse was appointed register of the Yankton land office, succeeding Hughes Hast who resigned. Wenzloff, a prominent German, was a former auditor candidate at the Huron convention and withdrew to accept the land office post, a move that pleases some and displeases others among Democratic Germans.
Sioux Falls voters show almost no interest in the November 5 election. About $180,000 in floating debt was tied to the consolidation proposal, with only 57 votes against it. The city’s growing debt funds new enterprises and transport facilities, and property values have doubled since last year.
President today announced several appointments. Solomon Wansaelef of Dakota is named register of the land office at Yankton. A C McClelland of Oregon becomes receiver of public moneys at La Grande. E Carpenter of Dakota is named receiver at Water Town.
