State Roads Behind In Maryland Highway Plan
W Frank Thomas of the State Roads Commission told the Confedera tion of Western Maryland Communities in Hancock that a half cent gasoline tax hike could fund a $29 million four year program to raise Maryland main highways to suitable standards. He noted only $1.25 million was available for new construction at fiscal year start and that the Hagerstown Frederick dual highway has $1.66 million spent with only about three miles of one lane built.
