Charter Given To Hancock Lions

A charter was presented to the new Lion’s Club of Hancock at a dinner and ceremonies held Tuesday evening in the Episcopal Parish Hall. Harold L. Loreman of Salisbury, Md., Lions district governor, presented the charter. The Frederick Lions via C. Thomas Summers and Richard F. Simpson welcomed the group into the national organization. The event drew 150 people from Frederick, Thurmont, Boonsboro, Hagerstown, Cumberland and nearby Pennsylvania communities.

Moffett Field Chosen for New Aeronautical Lab

Washington reports that Moffett Field near Sunnyvale California was selected for a new 10 million dollar aeronautical research laboratory. The National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics announced the choice from 54 sites proposed by as many communities. Congress provided 1.9 million dollars at the last session to begin development.

Mrs Mary Martin Vann travelled under guard to the funeral of her husband L W Vann 64 in Pensacola Florida. Vann later died after a long illness and Mrs Vann who is serving a 10 year term for conspiring to pull spikes from a rail on a curve and seeking life insurance and freedom to marry another man was not believed to be implicated by the engineer. The case involved two negroes also serving sentences who prosecutors said confessed to removing spikes.
