The Washington County Museum of Fine Arts announces a drawing and painting course for the next school year. The first meeting is October 28 with Saturday afternoon sessions from 1 to 4 30. Dwight Williams will direct, with life drawing and landscape study, limited class size, and personal instruction.

Local women plan attendance at the fall Maryland State Society D A R meeting at Carvel Hall Annapolis October 3 and 4 hosted by Peggy Stewart Tea Party Chapter. Mrs Charles Lee Lewis serves as regent and Mrs Henry M Robert Jr will address delegates Wednesday morning.
At the Orphans Home Auxiliary meeting the 56th anniversary open house is set for Wednesday November 8. The first children admitted in 1883 were a brother and sister as the institution opened in Hagerstown with David Emmett as superintendent and Miss Annie McCarty as matron. Donations include plants from Miss Mary Bester ice cream from Mr and Mrs Thos Pangborn fish from Roy Danzer 25 pounds frankfurters from Hagerstown Woodmen of the World clothing from Mrs Bowers Waynesboro Pa truckloads of peaches from Gardenhour Bros Smithsburg apples from Mr and Mrs Chas A Weasley Beaver Creek and more. The home gratefully acknowledges these contributions.
The Women’s Democratic Organization Club of Hagerstown will meet at the Grice building at 7:30 pm to discuss important matters. Mrs. Brewer L Stouffer, the president, will preside. The second item reports Supreme Court Justice Pierce Butler’s condition unchanged, still seriously ill with a kidney ailment in Washington.
A bronze marker honoring Frances E. Willard was dedicated by the Hagerstown W C T U in City Park beside a spruce tree planted a year ago. Rev. Wm Norment spoke on her life and greatness, with a program including hymns, readings, and a dedicatory address.
The annual Harvest Home sale at Williamsport Methodist Church starts at 7 30 this evening. A large assortment of fruits vegetables jellies and canned goods will be available to raise funds for church expenses.
Miss Ilgenfritz receives honors at a miscellaneous shower and card party hosted at Elizabeth Smiths Broadway home for Margeret Ilgenfritz prior to her marriage to J Carl Stonebraker next month. Prizes for cards go to Martha Trace and Betty Hill. guests include Reed Auxt Lehman South Dean Shank Ilgenfritz Beard.
John R. Van Arham marks twenty five years as a tent showman bringing a one night stand to Hagerstown on Thursday September 28 in a tent at the corner of Pennsylvania avenue and Forrest drive. The anniversary show features Texas Pegy a mountain music yodeler and singer the Man of Experience Reed Sisters tap dancing Charles Dome Williams Elmer of the Saturday Night Rain Dance Fritzie George and her six dancing sweethearts and Dick Gallagher's swingtime orchestra.
The Washington County Christian Endeavor Union holds its annual convention Thursday evening at Christ's Evangelical and Reformed Church on West Franklin Street. The event features a 6 pm fellowship banquet, theme Through Christ I am all Sufficient, with Rev. Harry Evanus of Pawtucket? Meth Church as speaker and H A Fesperman as toastmaster. Reservations to George P Williams by Monday 8 pm.
The Antietam Archers announced two events. An open tournament will be sponsored on Sunday October 29. A club tournament is set for Sunday October 8 at City Park.
The sixty sixth annual convention of the National Woman's Christian Temperance Union will be held in Rochester from September 27 to October 3 to celebrate the Frances Willard Centenary. Maryland has raised its full $25,000 toward the Frances H Willard Educational Fund, sending five state officers and delegates including Mrs. G F Smith and Mrs M B Thomas. Notables and speakers from across the nation will address the gathering, with events broadcast on international hook up and a window exhibit at the Enoch Pratt Library in Baltimore.
Mrs. Lynn H. Brumback, new Fountain Head Country Club ladies champion after defeating Mrs. Elsa Moore on Saturday, will be guest of honor at a championship dinner tonight. A silver cup will be awarded and kept until her title is challenged next year. If she wins the cup three years in a row it becomes hers. Brumback previously won the club cup in 1935 1936 and 1937. Mrs. Leslie W. Manners held the title in 1938 with Mrs. Elsa Moore as runner up. In first flight play, Hilda Ernst defeated Mrs. W. L. Hyssong.
Mrs. Eewin Krider hosted a miscellaneous shower at her Waynesboro home honoring Miss Josephine Gibney of this city. Her upcoming October 1 wedding to Mr. William C. Coss was the main focus as guests including Mesdames Stav er Mitchell Jones Ward Barkdoll Main Ridenour Gibney Gibney Coss Jones and White and the Misses Miller Miller Muninia were served refreshments.
