Du Pont Smashes American Glider Record in Blue Ridge Flight
Airman Frederick Du Pont of Wilmington Delaware set a new American glider distance record near Waynesboro after launching from the Maryland Virginia line. He traveled 122.5 miles besting the previous 66 mile mark by Jack O Mara of New York and narrowly missing the world record by about 14 miles. He landed at Detrick Airport after testing terrain and winds while averaging 3000 feet altitude with a maximum of 5000 feet. The flight, conducted during testing for the national soaring meet in Elmira New York, spurred talk of moving the next meet to the Blue Ridge region in Virginia and Maryland.

The first bench show for hunting dogs by the Izaak Walton League Walton chapter at Brew ers along the Conococheague Creek drew 76 entries. About 100 locals and Williamsport members attended. trap shooting followed, prizes awarded for blue ribbon dogs. Roger Q. Cook led the event with E. B.
