State Game and Fish Commission Pushes Hunting Law Reforms
The State Game and Inland Fish Commission seeks new hunting rules at the next legislature session. Proposals include a universal hunting license, penalties for intoxicated firearm handling, and increased hunting fees. Vaughn, director, spoke at the Izaak Walton League convention outlining plans for collaboration with sportsmen, farmers, and other groups before presenting to the Legislative Council. He noted Maryland laxity allows hunting of protected wildlife, urging licenses to curb out of state intrusion and protect wildlife stocks. Exemptions would cover local farmers, tenants, and regular range shooters. The issue highlights growing concerns about drunken hunting during deer season and parallels with drunk driving.
