Parents of pupils at Salfway school threaten to remove children unless building sanitation improves. John N. Bower will lead a community meeting at the school house at 7 30 this evening to discuss remedies. Diphtheria and scarlet fever epidemics blamed on rusted steel tanks and no plumbing replacing them. Odor of sewer gas reported throughout the classrooms.
Residents blame room conditions for ill health at a Halfway school. Two teachers Mrs. Lloyd B Hollinger and Miss Alice New comer are seriously ill with diphtheria, while a scarlet fever outbreak is also suspected to stem from sanitation. Last week a portion of the 250 pupils were sent home. Residents plan immediate improvements and will appeal to the county commissioners.
Police found a Cadillac abandoned in a vacant rear garage on West Washington Street. The owner reported the garage unlocked. neighbors said a man drove in, removed the license tags, and drove away. Authorities secured the motor number to trace ownership and possible crime use.
The Women’s Bible Class at St. Pauls Methodist plans its annual meeting Tuesday at 7 30 p m. An election of officers will follow, with character presentations by Mrs J Grason Steffey. Class officers will host, expecting a large turnout.

Washington County forest wardens will meet in the Court House on March 21 to discuss with State Forestry Department officials their work questions. Wardens have been unusually efficient this year, and the state sees a notable reduction in forest fires while Washington County remains free of them.
Police in Oslo report the discovery of an infernal machine near Oscar's Hall the prospective residence of Prince Olaf and Princess Martha of Sweden. The device had a candle fuse exposed and unlighted, leading authorities to suspect it was the work of a joker or a protest against the royal residence plan.
Fayetteville Ark March 10 Representative John Newton Tillman a 70 year old Democratic congressman from 1915 to 1929 and former University of Arkansas president died at his home at midnight after a nine month illness. He retired last summer and did not seek re-election. Mrs J J Gaylor Boonsboro entertained at dinner last Thursday.
Bay City and Midh. men Eddie Stinson and Randolph attempt third endurance flight for the Sally Sovereign. Takeoff from the ice on Saginaw Bay at 11:20 this morning ends two hours later due to motor trouble. Fred Shiffer visits his mother Ellen Shiffer and family last Thursday.
