Woman found slain in home with lethal beating

July 4 lib. report details Alberta Shorry, 23, beaten to death in her residence. Husband Howard Shorry told police he discovered her body on a downstairs living room floor after returning from a brief outing. Authorities described the weapon as a furnace shaker used to crush her skull.

Eleventh Deremer Family Reunion Held in Bedford

The Deremer family held its eleventh annual reunion in Bedford, Pennsylvania, with several hundred attendees. Speakers included Rev. Reginald T. Brohawn Rev. Dr. J. M. Gillum of Hagerstown and Dr. I. M. Wertz of Hagerstown. The next reunion was set for the last Saturday in June 1930 at Peoples Park near Cumberland Maryland.

Prohibition Force Wins Big Detroit River Campaign

Detroit July 5 Hard pressed by 500 prohibition agents coast guard cutters and coast guardsmen launched a sweeping campaign disabling rum runners. Bribery arrests followed probe led by Mr X and Navy chief petty officer Lawrence Marshman. The river front eased as speakeasies closed and smugglers shifted to nearby shores and overland routes.
