Annie Baker of Pinesbore testified at a preliminary hearing that her uncle George W. Gower gave about 360 dollars for her use with the understanding she would care for him in illness and arrange burial in her family lot. Other witnesses testified to Gower stating he gave the money to Mrs. Baker who would care for him. Baker denied the arrangement, saying the money was a gift with care for him to be provided.
