County Board Maps Program of Road Work
The Board of County Commissioners approved a plan to build 20 to 25 miles of new county roads across districts using the miscellaneous road fund of 354,596. Funds will also repair oiling and bridges with the balance allocated by district needs, listing roads and district allotments including Sharpsburg, Clearspring, Hancock, Smithsburg, Rohrersville, Leitersburg, Funkstown, Sandy Hook, Cearfoss, Ringgold, Indian Spring, Beaver Creek, Chewsville, Keedysville, Downsville, Wilson, and District 21. Twenty-two miles were completed last year from 48,500 in the miscellaneous fund.

Maryland National Guard unit Company B sixty strong leaves Hagerstown by special train for Camp Ritchie to encamp for fifteen days with 1100 guardsmen from the First Regiment under Col. D. John Markey. Equipment by trucks. local guards join Western Shore units at Cascade and on the Western Maryland line. Officers include Carl Schiotterbeck as Second Lieutenant, Carl H. McCleary as Captain, and Guy B. McKee as First Lieutenant. Regimental events planned include Veterans Day parade with Spanish American War veterans and reunions, regular maneuvers on the 18th and 19th, field drills starting Monday and range on Tuesday. Pell uses tennis racket for long golf drives in close match
Newport, July 5. Théodore R. Pell drove a ball 109 yards or more with a tennis racquet in a tight golf game against Harri Paine Bingham, who used all clubs. Pell played most strokes with the racket except greens where a bashie was used. Bingham led by two holes after nine holes, 42 to 40. Students League To Hold Services At Fleet Capital Church
The Student's League of Many Nations a religious workers group from six countries will hold a Sunday night service at Fleet Capital Church High and Washington streets. Led by Rev John A Davin the group will arrive in six buses for a 630 pm preparatory service before the main event. The league reports it has converted 15000 youths to missionary work in 84 states. Lawrence Jones a Shepherdstown painter was fatally injured in Philadelphia when a scaffold collapsed. Mrs Virginia Dess and Mrs Stella Mentzer are sisters.
