Merger would injure city in Hagerstown rail service

A Western Maryland rail plan discussed by A B S Smith, superintendent of the Western Maryland, at a Chamber of Commerce meeting warns that absorbing the Western Maryland by Baltimore and Ohio or Pennsylvania would hurt Hagerstown by eliminating its independent railway and limiting local shop activity. The discussion favors keeping competing lines separate to preserve service, local control, and reciprocal switching. Dr Victor D. Miller was named National Councillor and John Z Ferguson as delegate for the Chamber at the National Convention.
