The prosecution says Erickson plotted the perfect crime after losing his job at a garage. Erickson repudiated a confessed statement saying it was gained by third degree methods and based on amateur sleuthing. He said he knew the garage and the victim’s habits and offered only conjecture about the rear window entry. The defendant described the invented details as his theory of the crime.
