In St James near February, Emory Pani Moats 30 released from jail on bond after grand jury found no bill on murder charges in the death of Russell Clark. Moats admitted shooting Clark and wounding Bernard Clark claiming self defense. Bernard testified Moats fired first while in front of the Clark home. Former editor D Drake Haislip dies in Staunton at 89 after influenza illness. Snowstorm traps two pigeons rescued near Brumbach store.
Lieut. Gen. Sir Thomas Blamey commands Australian troops in Suez Egypt as part of an Anzac contingent that has helped assemble British French and Turkish forces in the Near East totaling 1 900 000 men. Observers foresee spring action in the region.

Snow Hill Md Feb 15 Opportunity stormed the jail but only two prisoners escaped. A mob freed 18 Negro inmates after breaking locks. sixteen stayed, including Hazel Purnell and Dallas Holden. The two who left were Louis Barkley and Lawrence Adkins, charged with larceny, captured a short distance away.
Col John Carmichael spoke on a national defense program sponsored by the local Reserve Officers Association chapter. The meeting at the State Armory was postponed to next Thursday due to the weather and he warned defense remains a crucial issue demanding clear action.
