Washington August 26 first class railroads asked the Interstate Commerce Commission to authorize rate increases totaling about 6 percent to cover rising operating costs. Officials cited a 293 million annual operating expense rise and noted 1933 revenues of 2.095 billion against 2.249 billion in expenses, with six months of 1934 showing continued pressure.

Four men from White Hall were killed instantly when a five ton truck and a sedan collided head on on the Jarrettsville pike near Jacksonville Maryland. Samuel Barnhart of Dallas Town Pennsylvania, 60, was treated for cuts and bruises and taken to Baltimore hospital. the truck driver was among the injured.
