The Washington County Christian Endeavor Union outlines plans for an August 18 convention at City Park with an afternoon inspirational address a picnic supper and an evening citizenship rally. Invitations go to Luther League Epworth League Brethren Young People and Baptist Young People unions. A retreat is set for Big Pool August 26 and 27 and district leaders report successful outdoor meetings across the counties. The next union meeting is scheduled for August 21.
A Royer family reunion took place at City Park yesterday. Officers elected include President Galen R. Dellig, vice president J Rush Smith, corresponding secretary Dr Mary A Laughlin, recording secretary Mary Fries, and treasurer Erama S Eshleman. The program featured welcomes by John Royer, vocal duets by Evelyn and Ruth Royer, piano solos by Harry Zimmerman and Dorothy Royer, readings by Eleanor Evelyn and Mary L Royer, and an address by Galen R Oellig.
The Christian Endeavor Society of the Presbyterian church held its Annual corn and wine roast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Snively on Marsh Pike. Attendees included the Snivlys Clarkes Ehliers Williams Hess Hurd Jean Clark Gordon Becher Henkins Ehlers Sands Shull Ehlers Hess Dearfoss Baker Suively and Dr W A Gordon. The event ended with hymns and a benediction by Rev Dr Hess.
Mr and Mrs John McPhail Jr hosted a buster supper for the newlyweds Mr and Mrs Walter W McPhail at their Towson home. Guests included Dr and Mrs Wagaman Mr and Mrs Richard Willson James Wagaman and Mitchell Wagaman from this city after their Canadian wedding trip.
The Fountain Head Country Club women’s team defeated Cumberland Country Club 11 to 7 on the local course. Scoring was by twosome with several pairings listed, and a luncheon followed for the visiting Cumberland players. Next matches are set for August 4 at Monterey and August 8 in Waynesboro.
The Western Circle of St. John's Episcopal church held a picnic supper at City Park last night with attendees including Rev Dr Walter Byron Stehl and his wife, Walter Stehl Jr, Deaconess Elizabeth Boorman, Mary Rawlins, Ross and Miriam Collisower, Samuel and family Glesner, George Huber, Mark Mellor and daughters, Myrtle and Ivy Zinkand, Mary Connor, Mrs Carpenter and daughter Betty, and Miss Clara Higgs.
A social weiner roast occurred last night at Tune Kuhn’s home 104 Bryan Place with attendees including Harold Stitely Dorthy Nigh Julia Helane Hilda Hotchkise Mary Nigh Vivian Jones Forest Hoover Hilton Hoover Earl Williams Bill Murray Billy Gluck Daniel White Alan Peer Jim Robinson Adela Kuhn and June Kuhn Games were played throughout the evening.
Fred C. Deubert of Bayonne New Jersey visiting Nelson E. Jones at 17 McKee Avenue praises Tahiti in the Society Islands as a paradise. He has made five trips since 1920 after first visiting a cousin there and witnessing native rites with a Polynesian guide. He notes island life as simple peaceful and richly beautiful and says the South Seas strongly draw him back.
Ruth and Naomi Class of Christ Reformed Church held its monthly gathering at Row's Park. The group planned a luncheon for Aug eleven in the basement and enjoyed swimming, games, and a wiener roast. The next meeting will be Aug thirty first at Mrs. Margaret Gearhart's home with officers renominated.
The We Brothers and Grace classes of Grace A. B. Sunday school plan a swimming and watermelon party at McCoy's Ferry on Thursday evening August 3. Cars depart the corner of Church and Winter at 6 50 o'clock.
The Oberholzer family schedules its ninth annual reunion at City Park on August 10. Officers listed include President C Hykes Vice President S C Oberholzer Secretary Sue Wilson and Treasurer J J Oberholzer.
