Not Guilty in Ohio Case Sparks Trial

In Clermont county Common Pleas Court the State of Ohio failed to convict Bernal Sparks for the June 20 shotgun killing of W. D. Auxier in Pierce township. A unanimous acquittal came after a crowded trial with three eye witnesses, Kentucky character witnesses, and brief testimony. the Liebermann boy faces October grand jury. Fred Edgington, Chile candidate, seeks re election to the General Assembly, urging vote on November 7.

Pleasant Surprise Marks Hartmetz 61st Birthday

On Sunday morning September 17 Chas Hartmetz of Stonelick was serenaded at home by his four sisters and brothers in law, children, and their families for his 61st birthday. Tobacco delegates meet in Georgetown with new district leadership

At a district meeting in Georgetown last week W A Miler of Felicity was named chairman and P C Gatewood of Gatewood elected secretary. Oscar C Ellis of Higginport was proposed to represent Adams Brown and Clermont counties with Charles Woodmansee of Felicity chosen as delegate at large. Brown county holds three district board seats, with Adams and Brown entitled to 11 delegates.

Tobacco House For Felicity Purchases Pooling Warehouse

H. E. Rankins began hauling Burley loose leaf tobacco from Augusta Kentucky to the river for shipment to Chile and Felicity where a pooled tobacco warehouse will be rebuilt for receipts. The move ends Augusta’s large local business, Felicity gains.

West Union Builds New Electric Plant After Fire

West Union will replace the destroyed plant with a new electric facility. New machinery is on order and will be housed in a new concrete building. Mr. Biffie will hire a local plant until the new setup is installed. The building will also include an ice plant and a moving picture hall.

Tarbell Performs Poorly in Scioto Against Gableman

Judge James W. Tarbell of Georgetown ran a strong Democratic campaign for the Supreme Court but flopped in Scioto county, home to Democratic congressional hopeful Mr. Gableman. In Portsmouth Tarbell won about 800 votes while Scioto county yielded roughly 600, suggesting Brown county voters should not be pressured to back Gableman in the fall.

Indictments and Guilty Pleas From Common Pleas Court

A special grand jury convened by Judge Joseph last Monday returned three indictments for incest theft and abandoning minor children. Burgess pleaded guilty and got one to ten years in the penitentiary. Herget also pleaded guilty and was sent to Manafield reformatory. Adams was released. Judge Joseph plans to leave for Cleveland after clearing these cases. Prosecutor Britton touted strong evidence leaving little option but guilty pleas. Judge Tranley Mathews of Cincinnati will open the October term next week.

Limestone demonstrations show lime needs in Clermont fields

Clermont County Agricultural Agent reports six northern fields used as lime demonstrations to test soil acidity and lime requirements ranging from two to four tons per acre.
