WPA Projects Approved In Clermont County Involving Local Share

Federal government releases dozens of WPA projects affecting Clermont County with total cost $137 057 of which $107 450 funded by federal and $29 607 by county and sponsors. Projects include sanitation, bridge repainting, retaining walls, road improvements, school renovations, and park work across Amelia Batavia Loveland Milford New Richmond Union Williamsburg and others.

Golden Wedding and Highway Talk Prominent in Local News

Mr and Mrs John A Miller celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their Withamsville home with twenty-eight guests. The event doubled as a housewarming after remodel, with gifts and themed refreshments. A regional highway delegation outlined plans to repair and resurface multiple routes along the Ohio River, including Route 74, 125, 132, 133, and US 50, with bridges and approaches updated and new safety features installed.

Milford Council approves five year electric rate cut ordinance

Milford passes an ordinance Thursday night to reduce electric bills from 12 to 20 percent with a five year contract for Union Gas and Electric Company. The rate change takes effect with October bills.

Double Funeral Held in Moscow for DeBruler and Roush

A double funeral was held in Moscow last Friday for Pearl DeBruler 67 and his mother in law Mrs Mary Roush 82. Rev A I York of New Richmd officiated with Rev Bretz assisting. DeBruler died Sept 17 leaving widow Nellie and brothers Ellis and Wm. Roush died Monday Sept 17 leaving husband J W Roush and children Fred Gates Mike Roush and Josephine Zimmer Davidson. Funeral services for Mrs Davidson were held Tuesday at Maham funeral home in Williamsburg.

Clermont county mourns as Sam uel Jackson Meeker 92 of Bethel dies at his daughter's home after enlisting at 18 in the Fourth Independent Company Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Survived by widow Jane Hockman Meeker. services at Kennedy Funeral Home with American Legion burial. Also reported are deaths of Wm. Kilius 67 and Mrs. Mary Kilius Burkhardt 74, and Thomas L. Mefford 51 with services held in Bethel and Mt. Washington. Burial at Greenmound Cemetery and Bethel Cemetery respectively.

Mrs Gorman Dies in Madisonville at 4420 Wetsel

Mrs Ida S Gorman nee Dimmitt wife of James K Gorman former Clermont county sheriff died suddenly Sunday at her Madisonville home. She leaving her husband a daughter Mrs Gail Hivert of St Petersborg Florida and two sisters Mrs C O Long and Mrs Frank Dimmitt of Newtoneville. Funeral services were at the Thomas Funeral Home. Tuesday afternoon Miss Mary Katherine Bauer Batavia senior class honor student awarded a one year Miami University scholarship.

County auditor Blythe Jones warns property owners who added improvements over 200 dollars since the last appraisal must notify the auditor within 60 days. Failure to comply could incur penalties under the general code. The effort aims to correct tax duplicates and collect due taxes.

Cincinnatian Bound Over To County Grand Jury

Carl Corbin age 21 of 1121 Hopkins Jr Cincinnati bound over to the county grand jury on a manslaughter charge in the Feb 27 auto crash near New Richmond that killed Jack Collins age 60. Bond set at 1000. he was unable to meet it and was returned to General Hospital under guard.

State highway fund in Clermont County stirs confusion

The State Highway Department wavers over a $25,000 allocation once set for township road repairs. Columbus changed plans three times, now asks commissioners to pick one road. At a Monday meeting the commissioners did not choose, officials fear the money may not come and suspect state officials will do as they please.

Tax settlement details in county drainage of funds

County Auditor Blythe Jones oversees the August tax settlement with payments to schools, townships, villages, and the county general fund. Principal items total 103,720.01 for schools, 18,022.46 for townships, 14,459.25 for villages, 27,293.22 for the county fund, 17,681.78 for the debt fund, and 346.78 to the state, plus ad hoc advances to specific districts ranging from 1,000 to 5,000.
