Batavia schools oppose hiring a nurse after injury

Batavia Superintendent Jack Maddox told the Clermont Courier no nurse is needed at Batavia Schools. He argued teachers can handle minor injuries with Band aids and first aid training, estimating $20,000 yearly for a nurse plus benefits as unnecessary. Decline in Youth Drug Trying in Clermont County Schools

A biannual survey of 5067 students across Clermont County public, parochial and private schools shows a downward trend in the number of youths trying drugs over the past two years, though daily tobacco and marijuana use rise in some groups. The report compares data with 1980 figures and notes shifting patterns in alcohol, heroin and amphetamine use among 7th, 10th and 12th graders, with general declines in annual usage but increases in daily amphetamine use among males and females.
