Juries for Goer's term have been drawn and will be compelled to serve under the new law. Exemptions are only by doctor’s certificate, ending frequent requests to be excused. Citizens must appear in person at the designated time to tell their troubles to the Doctor.
The Batavia Garden Club gathered Monday afternoon at Mrs. Larkin’s home for an engaging program. Officers elected for the next year are President Mrs. E S Bush First Vice Mrs. B L Larkin Second Vice Mrs. H N Wilson Secretary Mrs. Buerkle Treasurer Mrs. B F Pearson. Retiring president Mrs. J M Wiseman was praised for the year's success and Mrs. E S Rush won ribbons for Best Specimen and Best Arrangement.
Howland Erdman County Treasurer R F Erdman of New Richmond and Miss Myra Howland of Winchester were married last Saturday at First Presbyterian Church Hillsboro. Miss Howland is the eldest daughter of D E Howland and a graduate of New Richmond High School and Wilmington College. Mr Erdman is serving his second term as county treasurer and a graduate of the College of Dentistry. Mrs Erdman will be a deputy in her husband’s office and they will reside in New Richmond. Best wishes.
In Owensburg a Methodist parsonage wedding united Miss Clara L Burdsall and Verne E Kashboun under Rev Ge Larkin using a ring ceremony at 6 p m. Witnesses were Miss Mildred Burdsall and her husband.
The new steel bridge on Route 60 at Stonelick, recently completed, replaces the old structure and is praised as a credit to the county and state. The approach and berms complement the prominent, strong, and beautiful bridge. Clermont is to have twenty more bridges, reports say.

Forest Stingley 19 Dur ondo Lemons 21 and Carey Storey 21 of Xenia were ordered held to the Clermont county grand jury on petit larceny charges Saturday by Mayor R M Thomeson of Loveland. They were arrested Friday night by Marshal John Parker after an auto chase from Webster restaurant with several boxes of cigars. Entrance had been gained by breaking the glass in the front door. Bonds were set at $2000 each.
Prosecutor Forrest KE Ely reports a year of active cases including murder in first degree one now in mental hospital and second degree two in penitentiary plus manslaughter one with deferred sentence. Larceny eight assault and battery five indictments eighteen liquor violations twenty four forgery six and other criminal counts. Fines total two thousand one hundred twenty six with jail service of two thousand nine hundred ninety and total cases one hundred forty five.
The Amelia first grade records four pairs of twins among 57 bright children aged six. Families include Bauer-Jean Jane, Bissantz-Howard Harold, Peters-Donald Doris, Rust Ruby Helen. Mrs Rust is deceased. Look for their photo in the Enquirer.
Former Batavian Mrs Clara widow of the late Will Applegate of Batavia died at her daughter Mrs Connie Baldwin’s home in Norwood Sun. She had suffered ill health for several years. Two daughters survive. Funeral from Moore Funeral Home Tuesday with burial in Union Cemetery. She was a member of the M E church and had many local friends.
The Milford Flower Show held last Wednesday night in the banquet room of the Masonic lodge was an attractive affair with a gorgeous display, fine arrangements, and many varieties. Attendance was large and compliments were plentiful for the organizers.
Clermont County Bankers Association met at First National Bank Batavia with full membership. All county banks agree to pay the tax on deposits under the new tax law. An advertisement explains the matter in detail. Banks are presented as the safest place to keep money.
At the county board meeting Sept R G Little of Felicity schools was reappointed County School Examiner for two years from Sept 1. County Sept E H Pattison was summoned to Columbus on Sept 22 for an all day meeting of state superintendents called by new education director B O Skinner.
Conservation officers and game wardens forbid training dogs in fields or woods between October 15 and 31. The notice outlines enforcement actions and aims to protect game during the period.
L L Hill presided as president of the Clermont County Council of Religious Education at a Sunday meeting in Bethel M E Church. H H Reed led leadership training planning with a tentative five day school and committee members Ireton Long Althaus Reed will report at the next executive session on September 27. A memorial read by Miss Sarah Pollock honored Frank McNeill and George W Burnett for their service as officers and faithful public spirited work.
The American Farm Bureau Federation hosted a Chicago gathering called by President E O Nea l to discuss a five point plan. Attendees included James C Stone of the Federal Farm Board and Arthur M Hyde Secretary of Agriculture along with Ohio officials L B Palmer and L J Taber. The program calls for strengthening state extension services coordination of agency work and defense against misleading propaganda plus urging Congress to fund extension services.
The Clermont County Fair Board faced losses during fair week due to rain and sought $500 from the County Board of Commissioners. The commissioners approved $600 to cover premiums and expenses, ensuring continued operation. The note suggests the county take over the enterprise if it is to continue as a county project.
Brown, Clermont and Highland counties Farm Bureau leaders gathered at the Batavia courthouse on Friday to review relations with the extension service and policy issues. A survey by the USDA, discussed by R C Smith of OSU, found limited knowledge of the Bureau among many farmers, with 32 percent membership among those visited and 85 percent overall satisfaction. The group noted potential to double membership if farmers better understood the organization’s aims, and district director R R Caldwell announced quarterly planning meetings with county officers and agents, noting attenders are unpaid beyond satisfaction of aiding the cause.
The S R 8 Woman's Relief Corps No 161 Milford met with 22 members. Plans were made to host Southwestern Ohio Veterans Association guests for the annual Milford reunion at the M E Church on Friday September 25. Secretary Gertrude Dericks promotes the event as a success with strong support from Relief Corps members and G A R allies.
Mrs. E. 8. Rush reports space for two vines on a grape arbor where nightly about 200 moon flowers bloom. They are white as snow and large as saucers, visible between sunset and sunrise, a beautiful sight each morning this time of year.
James Snell, a farmer on the A. C. Stark farm near Batavia, fell on corn stubble last Thursday, injuring his groin and making him helpless. He was taken to the hospital and his condition was reported as serious but improving after treatment.
