Early Amelia Industry Shaped Village Life And Notable Heritage
Amelia’s early industry employed most residents with factories once lining the town. A knitwear and a pants and clothes factory stood across from today’s Pill Box, while the original post office sat near Jenny Lind and Chapel. The Glen Mary Fish Farm began in 1913, becoming the nation’s largest regional goldfish producer, and the Pommert Gladiolus Farm produced 60 million bulbs yearly. Morgan’s Raid passed through on July 14, 1863, prompting local claims for reimbursement by three households. The Thomas-Fuller home at 119 W Main St housed McGill-Smith engineers, and Charles Kearns, born at 66 W Main St, later served as U.S. Representative and longtime attorney in Washington.

Spotlight tory dining and historic homes in Clermont County
The Spotlight tory housed oyster dinners and hosted part of a Farmer's Institute week for area farmers. Built in the 1850s by the Knights of Pythias, it ties to local history including Nellie Maddox, Clermont County's late justice of the peace, who lived at the northeast corner of Hopkins Avenue and Main Street until her death in 1967. The Elijah G. Penn home on Main Street became Apple Hill apartments and was a hub for notable visits by Nicholas Longworth and his wife Alice. Penn, a chief builder of the Ohio Turnpike in 1831, saw his family linked to Lena Penn who married Charles G. Kearns.
