Thomas B. Reed, at the height of influence, delivers a farewell letter praising his constituents. He expresses gratitude to Democrats and Republicans alike and pledges continued district loyalty.
Mr Layport of Epworth Heights had a miraculous escape when a Pennsylvania train struck and killed his horse as he crossed the tracks. He remained in his buggy uninjured after the collision, which did not overturn the vehicle.
Western Tobacco Journal notes Burley market strength with prices firm through four days. Best prices go to low grades with color, but medium and good stock show improved sentiment. Totals show 1,823 birds offered at an average of 80.8 cents per hundred pounds, with daily averages around 88 to 92 cents. several Cincinnati warehouses listed for the week starting September 10.
John Woods, 22, lost a finger at White & Dillman’s furniture factory when cleaning a cylinder. Lloyd Bryan, of Williamsburg Furniture, suffered a severe hand injury after contact with a circular saw.

The first quarterly meeting of the new year was led by Presiding Elder Rev Dart, who preached at both services sharing reflections on the yoke of Christ and the hope of immortality illustrated by Job.
The Bantam fair drew good attendance with ideal weather and strong exhibits. Floral hall impressed under Himer Ely’s needlework, Frank Thurber led the flower display, and Richard Hawkins from New Richmond supervised fruit quality. George Taylor managed dairy and pantry products, while horse show ring competition drew entrants from Georgetown Felicity Batavia and Kentucky. The management praised for prompt premium payments and fair treatment as the exhibition closed with a championship ball game.
Loveland welcomed a large crowd for a reunion of the 5th and 7th U S Cavalry with General Thomas Heath supervising events. Decorations abounded and a noon luncheon was served in Sullivan's grove. A county auditor received a tabulated statement comparing 1899 to 1898 showing Ohio holds 704 165 horses 1 851 251 cattle 14 508 mules 2 512 761 sheep and 1 519 552 hogs with declines in horses mules and hogs and increases in cattle and sheep Clermont county lists 6 641 horses 9 500 cattle 546 mules 7 883 sheep and 17 946 hogs.

The France Physicians return to treat chronic and private diseases at Clermont hotel Bata via on Tuesday, September 20. They restrict to their specialties and see only those who have not found relief with family doctors. Consultation is free and confidential. Treasurer A. J. Allen returns from the East.

Milford defeats Bethel 21 to 7 on Bantam fair grounds to claim the county baseball championship prize of 3 dollars. Bass pitched for Milford while Scott pitched for Bethel as Milford racked up 19 base hits to Bethel’s 7 and committed 5 errors to Bethel’s 8.
Judge William F. Day formerly secretary of State and head of the peace treaty commission with Spain will retire from law in Canton where he has practiced for 80 years ending a long career.
The public school advances under Superintendent Collins with 00 pupils enrolled. New assistants Fulton and Hatfield satisfy in their rooms. An industrious teacher corps earns patrons support, and the school aims for front rank at all times.
O M Patton longtime Loveland schools superintendent has been appointed as a teacher at Garfield school Cincinnati with a salary of 1000 dollars and potential promotion. He moved his family to Cumminsville on the North side.
Detective Pelton reports a Clermont county liquor dealer violating Internal Revenue laws by selling on Sundays, closing his saloon, and dispensing liquor at home while officials are in church. He sought action from United States Attorney Bundy, who referred him to Collector Bellman for investigation. Everett Shirr, photographer, left Monday for Memphis to pursue a lucrative position.
A prospectus outlines the Cincinnati Hillsboro Jackson and Galipolis line from Galipolis to Cincinnati through Hillsboro Fayetteville Newtonsville and Milford about 110 miles. It would run near the old 1853 Cincinnati Hillsboro and Parkersburg route and offer the direct outlet for coal timber and agricultural products from Clermont County. Local leaders urged support noting the largely free right of way and the region’s need for improved transport.
