A sensational Thursday night scene on the courthouse corner features a strong ringed speaker accusing the administration while promoting McLean for governor. The crowd, facing derision, disperses as the speaker exposes his employer and the town contemplates his expenses and next town move.
Dr H C Robinson of Cincinnati showcased a centrifugal placer gold saving machine in Summit County. Tested on Riverside placer gravel, the device saved 7.05 dollars while running on a five foot pan submerged in water. The inventor claims minimal power and high efficiency and invites inquiries at his Cincinnati address.
The county commissioners held a three day meeting with extensive business. They approved annexation petitions from Bethel and Neville, set hearings for November 15 and 16, 1899, and accepted several turnpike sections as complete. The infirmary reports show 50 inmates, 27 male and 23 female, with six months costs totaling 3,398.03. A long list of bills and salaries were approved, including post mortems, road work, lumber, printing, and soldiers relief. Cornelia Molasin will study stenography in Cincinnati this winter.

F M Pursell of New Richmond named as his successor with a 5000 bond backed by National Surety Company.
The 1899 pension year shows 991 519 beneficiaries who received 132 355 052 dollars. Pending claims total 477 249 from 450 877 claimants, with 139 641 unpensioned. Fraud cases 827 on criminal docket. 175 tried, 157 convictions. Ohio leads with 105 627 pensioners and 15 456 007 dollars paid. Pennsylvania 104 681 and 12 170 795. Canadian residents 2 139. others include 605 in Germany and 405 in Ireland.

William J. Wyatt sues Western Automatic Machine Company in Cincinnati for 5000 claiming a coin operated striking machine failed to budge and caused a broken wrist. He alleges faulty construction and seeks damages, arguing the device would have caused no injury if it functioned.
The paper clarifies that Dr Tony Valentine of Lindale treated the Texas fever outbreak in Moscow cattle. It states Dr King Dodds was not present and credits Valentine with near nonstop care that has improved recoveries and healthy prognosis for the herd.
