Clermont's Oldest Soldier Turns 100 Next Sunday

William Henry Moyer, born in Brown county and long a Clermont resident near Bethel, will celebrate his 100th birthday next Sunday. Civil War veteran of Co. A OVI and Co. F 137 OVI, he is a former mail carrier, G A R member, and longtime stock raiser. He has spent the last decade with his daughter in law near Williamsburg after years with his son John, now aged and wheelchair bound.

Garden Club Elects Officers For Next Year

The Batavia Garden Club met Monday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Huntington. Officers elected for the ensuing year include President Mrs. Chas White, First Vice Mrs. P Gunderley, Second Vice Mrs. W R Kernohan, Secretary Mrs. W Bishop, and Treasurer Mrs. Chas Daugherty.

Flower Show Planned at Batavia Armory Saturday

Batavia Garden Club announces its annual Flower Show at the O N G Armory in Batavia Saturday September 22 from 8 to 9 p m. Entrants must be amateurs with blooms grown by the exhibitor. Entries accepted 9 to 12 a m with numbers from the Entry Committee. Blue and red ribbons awarded.

Batavia Takes Game One In Championship Series

Batavia built a 13 to 4 victory over the Builders as Hoberg Kiuner led the offense with three hits each. Lind sey limited opponents to six hits as Crowder and Kurtz combined for 16. More than 600 spectators watched the orderly contest with K I O umpires. Next Sunday the teams meet in Aimelia for game two with the series outcome still in doubt.

The Clermont County Teachers Association will convene at Batavia High School on September 22, 1934 at 9 30 a m. County agent E. B. Baugh reports from Washington that the final date to accept applications for Federal Emergency Crop Loans has been moved from September 15 to October 15. Applicants may file at Baugh’s office at no charge for seed and fertilizer loans.

Amiott-Savage Family Reunion at Oweneville Fair Grounds

The Amiott-Savage family reunion was held Sunday September 9 at Oweneville Fair Grounds. Fifty six family members attended from near and far. Guests enjoyed a communal dinner in the hotel and an afternoon of games and chat with everyone in good spirits.

New Richmond Pumpkin Show Plans Under Way

Arrangements for the New Richmond Pumpkin Show on September 27 to 29 are advancing rapidly with expected record youth participation and many prize entries. Prizes include a ten dollar cash award for best pumpkin and numerous other awards for produce such as potatoes peaches sweet potatoes tomatoes squash corn and apples. All entries become property of the show committee and will be auctioned on the final night. A 46 piece band from the Union Gas and Electric Co will perform at the event.

Brown urges Ohio voters to curb government waste in Sardinia speech

Republican gubernatorial nominee Clarence J. Brown told several thousand Brown County supporters in Sardinia that Ohio's government is chaotic under the Democratic regime. He condemned rising costs, new agencies, and bloated payrolls, pledging economy, simplification, and efficiency through coordinated departments and fewer burdens on taxpayers.

Harmony 4-H Club Plans Achievement Program

The 4-H Harmony group met with Jeanette Savage on September 8 to discuss the achievement program. Recreation leaders led activities as Red Cross dressmaking and refreshments were served with ice cream cake and lemonade. Next meeting set for October 18 at Mrs Hazel Harris’s.
