In Batavia last Friday two fakirs drew a crowd with a pretty girl for a drawing card and claimed no four men could lift her though the act was not performed. They hawked razors collar buttons and rings, sold goods at inflated prices, and refunded the first sale as a draw. Victims lost over 300 dollars, then the pair moved on to Milford with similar success, repeating the pattern of getting something for nothing.

Riffe Captured After Jail Escape and Bank Robbery
Estill Riffe, former county sheriff, arrested in Cattlesburg Ky by city officers after escaping Georgetown jail two weeks earlier. He faced charges for Ripley Bank robbery and postal robberies in Kentucky, pled guilty at a preliminary hearing and was bound over to the Federal grand jury. Word claimed he would not be taken alive, but surrendered when confronted with revolver muzzles.
