Draft Board to Examine 100 More Men in Batavia
Clermont County draft officials at Batavia set Monday September 17 for 100 additional men to appear for examination to fill quotas due to exemptions granted by the district board. Some men seek exemptions while others are physically qualified and single, with married men often exempt. State Supt. urges expanded normal school training this year
State Superintendent F B Pearson writes to Supt Aultman urging Batavia and county normal schools to train more teachers this year and prepare for larger schools next year. With only 36 of 88 counties having these schools, shortages make appointments likely. Batavia Normal enrollment details show 283 total, 86 in high school. normal school remains permitted with current enrollment.

Centennial Celebration Of Hillsboro Masons
The Masons of Hillsboro plan a two day event October 4 and 5 to celebrate the Blue Lodge centennial and rededicate their new temple at High and Beech streets. Grand Master J. C. Clare of Cincinnati will lead dedicatory ceremonies with many prominent Masons from several states attending. Public services October 5 are open to all. The Hillsboro lodge is among Ohio’s strongest for a town its size, and the building is praised for its beauty and energy of the members.

County Commission Awards Bridge Contracts in Special Session
In a special meeting the county commissioners approved several bridge contracts. Charles McBeth won the Ohio River road bridge near Hendrixson for 375 dollars and another at Floyd Jones in Wayne township for 380. L Finegar received 389 for a Tate township bridge near Beck's residence. Rodney Jenks secured 390 for a bridge near Patton’s residence. Walter Jordan was awarded an abutment near Loveland at 5.60 per cubic yard. Two contracts were not awarded.

Large Hog Shipment From Batavia Township

Poor Tomato Crop Leaves Gardeners Short for Canning

Batavia will gain a new 18 by 40 foot cement block depot to replace the old C G and P station. The building will sit beside the walk with three rooms ticket office waiting area freight and electrical room supplying day current. Tomato Crop Delays Hit Canneries This Fall

Daylight Robbery on Mt Summitt Farmer Stopped for Cash
Milton Mattox of Mt Summit faced three gunmen at Nagle and Cluff roads last Saturday afternoon. He surrendered $18.50 as the bandits fled into fields. one was later arrested and turned over to mounted police. A lynching was narrowly averted. a revolver and dirk were found on the prisoner.
