Judge Ashburn Nominated by Clermont Brown Democrats
Clermont and Brown counties Democrats held a Williamsburg convention to nominate a State senator for the Clermont Brown district. The headcount was eighty seven delegates with Ashburn leading on the first ballot 60 to 27 for McKeever. McKeever urged unanimous support but Ashburn remained the clear nominee. Cal Henry of Georgetown opposes Ashburn.

Longtime Democratic State Senate Candidate Born in East Walnut Hills
The subject, born February 9 1820 in East Walnut Hills, pursued farming schooling then Miami University, taught in New Richmond, studied at Jefferson College, taught in Clermont County, read law, and gained admission to the bar. He settled in Batavia in 1846, served as prosecutor until 1852, ran for Legislature in 1855, was elected Judge of the common pleas court in 1861, served through 1874, ran for Supreme Court in 1875, joined the Supreme Court Commission 1877–1880, and later practiced law in Batavia.
