In a 19th century jail break tale, Mrs. Teal and Sheriff Kean confront three inmates who fashioned keys from a chair back and a horn comb. George Heck, a locksmith, aided the scheme, but the jailbreak collapses when the sunken tools are found beneath floorboards. A wedding at Mulberry on September 10 united Charles Rybolt and Miss Mamie Smith with Rev. H Hill officiating at the bride's home. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous repast then the couple left for a wedding tour to the Sunny South.
George Jones of Amelia reports a prolific tomato season from 1% acres, gathering 600 bushels so far. A sample brick shows a three pound tomato, scarlet with a hint of green, enough to feed ten men with a delicious lunch.
The Courier reports Amelia as a calm village disturbed by burglaries and a riot. Barber Frank Moore age twenty, tied to a prior burglary, drank Sunday and attacked a group including Elmer Hulick with an axe, then fled before being restrained by his parents and jailed in Batavia on a $400 bond.
Dr E L Moore of Amelia sees a South American tarantula at his office. The spider, described as large with a trunk like a pullet egg, was captured alive by the doctor after a moment of fright. He suspects the specimen arrived in bananas. The doctor provided a warm alcohol bath for the arachnid.
Afton and Withamsville opened a three game series last Saturday in Boston with Afton winning 31 to 7. The second game is slated for next Saturday in Withamsville, September 20, with further plans for September 27 if grounds allow. Bethel's Bill nine claimed Clermont county club supremacy and issued challenges for three game series, inviting Browns County clubs to respond.
A Loveland pastor, owner of a warehouse where rags were stored, is charged after a midnight blaze that spread from a rag collection on the lower floor to the roof. Fire officials and Dr. Bisho, agent for an insurer, deem the case arson and the pastor was released on 300 bail after mayoral examination.

During a shooting match at Rainsborg last Friday a ball struck the tap and glanced, hitting Thomas Roads on the temple and killing him instantly. Roads, a blacksmith and brother to Harrison Roads, proprietor of the Andes Hotel, leaves a family. The accident caused intense village excitement.
Farmers in the Eleventh District met in Hillsboro to nominate a People's Party congressional candidate. A convention will be held in Hillsboro on September 25 with one delegate from each alliance and grange invited to participate.
The Cincinnati Commercial notes Brown Clermont and Adams counties grow large quantities of fine white barley tobacco on sunny rolling hills where workers harvest and prepare the crop. It reports a fatal Northwestern railroad freight yard accident last Wednesday night as James Howard died cleaning a locomotive while a yard engine gained control on a slippery grade. It adds Batavia jail committee plans reducing cells to ten and aprroving Pauly jail plans with estimated cost 21 732 21 and lists yeas and nays on the resolution.
The Grant birthplace relic once displayed at Cincinnati Exposition was burnt by an incendiary in Chicago last Saturday night. Owner Michael Kirsch reported his barn and contents valued around $900 were destroyed as flames swept through the outbuilding. the late hour may have spared the house from further damage.
