Mrs Roy D Jarvis, mother in law of Roy Battles, died in Toledo September 7.
Bethel school principal J W Alley was informed by Robert L Roche that the Ohio State Department of Education cannot decide if Bethel should be exempted as a school district. Census shows Bethel population over 2000, with outside-village count near 3000. Roche suggests seeking an opinion from Ohio Attorney General William O'Neill since the issue falls outside education department responsibility.
The Clermont County Schools Committee organized on September 9 electing Harold Nichols of Batavia as chairman, Harry Danner of Pierce township as vice chairman, and Edward Rosendahl of Miami Rural and Milford as secretary. The nine member panel will study the county school system as required by new state law and meet at least monthly. Plans for a yearlong study were discussed.
A county wide rabies inoculation program begins next Monday September 20 with a $2.50 fee per dog. Health officials and veterinarians set stations across Clermont including Owensville Milford Goshen Loveland Mt. Carmel Batavia Williamsville Amelia Bethel Williamsburg Felicity New Richmond Moscow and more, with dates from September 20 to 23 targeting evening slots.
The Batavia Rotary Club hosts an invitational dinner dance at the Copper Stallion in Glen Este on Friday evening September 17 to aid the Clermont County Child Welfare Board. Owners Mr and Mrs Claude Jackson offer free food and service for the event.
The Republican Clubs of Cler mont County met at the D-X Ranch with about 100 members. Congressman Frank T. Bow spoke on Taft program influence. Other volunteers and candidates were introduced for local and county offices. A separate Batavia Grange meeting will elect officers September 16.
The Milford Chamber of Commerce kicks off its eighth annual Fall Festival at Riverside Park with a mammoth parade at 7 pm on Friday from Center Street to Water Street. Miss Jo Neace is crowned queen, with attendant Janet Hackman and last year's queen Kay Whittenbarger making appearances. Fireworks, a Kiwanis dog parade, prizes, and a 1954 automobile giveaway cap Friday and Saturday events.
Clermont residents must enter by September 19 for the Bible contest sponsored by the King’s Heralds at Batavia, with prizes for oldest, largest, and smallest complete Bibles. The event includes weekly Bible lectures at the Batavia Armory and displays of winning Bibles in Batavia.
Common Pleas Judge Harry Britton sentenced Kenneth Matthews of Cincinnati to one to 15 years in the Ohio Penitentiary for his role in the attempted Schney Distributing Company burglary at Locust Corner. Andy Bruin, 20, drew one to 15 years in Mansfield Reformatory. Milford Berry, 21, received one to 15 years for breaking and entering a Felicity filling station. Elsa Hazelbaker, 40, Georgetown, got three years probation for assault with intent to kill. Thomas B Ferris, 21, got three years probation for entering a Danbury garage at Williamsburg. Ben Clark, 34, Cincinnati, faced perjury charges. Roosevelt Payne convicted of grand larceny in copper theft from the CG&E plant near New Richmond. Bert Begley of Felicity faces grand jury after threats. Wilson Dietz held for nonsupport on bond.
Richard Gerlaugh a 21 year old Norwood youth faces trial in Hamilton County Common Pleas Court for breaking into a Mt. Washington bowling alley removing a safe found battered open in Clermont County He will face two additional Clermont County charges of breaking and entering and had been previously acquitted there of two similar charges.
The Batavia council confirmed Willard Vance of Route 4 Batavia as night patrolman after a request by the Batavia Business Men's Association. He will aid the two man police department and begin duties next week following reports of numerous burglaries in the county.
